Job Responsibilities for CT Technologist
- Obtain CT images according to established protocols.
- Ensure patient is properly prepared, positioned, immobilized, and protected with shielding when applicable; select correct technical factors.
- Perform I-Stat blood tests.
- Translate results for contrast procedures.
- Dispense appropriate oral contrast based on patient history and protocol.
- Perform venous access for IV contrast administration as directed by a radiologist.
- Perform CT interventional procedures, including assisting with biopsies, drainages, aspirations, endo leak glueing, and ablations; maintain inventory of supplies such as catheters, wires, and needles.
- Operate cryo, radiofrequency, and microwave ablation equipment, including setup and probe use.
- Perform CTA imaging, including carotid, head, vertebral, run-offs, and PE critical bolus timing; conduct advanced CTA studies such as TAVR, EVAR, and cardiac imaging.
- Operate CT scanners, power injectors, and computer systems to acquire diagnostic images.
- Maintain knowledge to operate different CT systems across multiple locations.
- Follow protocols based on Image Gently guidelines and monitor dose data to prevent excessive radiation exposure.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of clinical histories, organ systems, and vascular systems to produce high-quality images.
- Ensure all equipment and supplies are cleaned, sterilized, and operational.
- Understand pharmacology to interpret lab results, manage drug interactions, and administer medications during cardiac scans, including considerations for Metformin and Glucophage.
- Apply physics knowledge to optimize patient dose during scans.
- Adjust technical factors to improve image quality and speed.
- Manage pre-certification, patient, and insurance information to schedule exams efficiently.
- Communicate with providers regarding exam orders, required lab tests, and clinical information.
- Maintain inventory management for supplies and equipment.
- Provide accurate CTP coding and billing for procedures and supplies.
- Conduct equipment quality control and report irregularities.
- Utilize Life Image for receiving and importing outside hospital scans into PACS.
- Handle non-controlled medications during exams.
