Job Description
Operates Computed Tomography (CT) and/or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment, prepares patients for examination, ensures proper information has been obtained for the physician to make a diagnosis. Assists in managing patient flow and presents images mounted for physician's diagnosis.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepares patients for examination.
- Explains procedures in easy-to-understand terms to relieve patient anxiety.
- Sets up equipment to administer the proper procedure promptly.
- Ensures consent forms for I.V contrast materials are obtained.
- Performs CT/MRI procedures, including:
- Abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, extremities, implant planning, radiation therapy planning, biopsies, etc.
- Prepares patients, positions them on the exam table, and within the gantry.
- Inputs patient history and relevant information from the requisition, including anatomical area, slice thickness, and couch increment.
- Calculates the number of scans based on patient size and operates the equipment to obtain required images.
- Coordinates with Radiologist for review and additional scans if needed.
- Transmits cases via Tele-Radiology system.
- Transfers images to film, archives to discs or optical disks, or PACS.
- Administers contrast agents as per Radiologist's orders.
- Verifies no contraindications exist.
- Calculates contrast dose based on patient weight.
- Performs venipuncture as needed.
- Explains contrast administration in layman's terms and completes required documentation.
- Uses appropriate techniques for contrast administration and manages reactions or extravasations.

Job Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
- NY State Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist.
- ARRT Registered Technologist (R.T.) required for positions after September 5, 2010. CT or MRI registration required within 18 months of employment.
- Certification in IV Contrast Administration within 6 months of employment.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
- Previous experience as a Radiologic Technologist required; CT or MRI experience preferred.
