Job summary

Mercycare is seeking a role in Cedar Rapids to support imaging services through patient registration, preparation, transport, and monitoring. The position emphasizes accurate communication at handoffs, EPIC/PACS proficiency, and adherence to safety guidelines to ensure high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities include assisting technologists, maintaining equipment, registering patients, and participating in department meetings.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) as per American Heart Association.
• Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required.
• Certification of completed training must be submitted to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.

Responsibilities

• Communicate accurate and clinically relevant information at hand-offs with patients, families and staff.
• Ensure necessary information is communicated to appropriate parties for optimal patient outcomes.
• Assist in phone communication with other departments and providers.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of EPIC Registration, PACS and related software.
• Maintain proper safety techniques with imaging/positioning equipment.
• Participate in department/hospital meetings and activities per guidelines.
• Attend required safety trainings and understand responsibilities related to safety hazards.
• Assist technologists with ancillary tasks and maintain department cleanliness.
• Follow isolation practices and register patients for imaging procedures as needed.
• Contribute to efficient department operation and continuity of patient care.
• Adhere to Mercy safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions or incidents.
• Transport patients for Radiology and keep workflow moving smoothly.

Summary

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by participating in duties directly involved with imaging including registration, patient preparation, transportation, and monitoring patients for the effective utilization of this unit.

Job Description

Job Duties

• Ensures that all accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families and co-workers at hand offs and other times as needed.
• Takes all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome.
• Assists in phone communication with other departments and providers.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of EPIC Registration, PACS, and other computer software programs as assigned.
• Demonstrates proper safety technique with imaging/positioning equipment.
• Participates in department/hospital meetings, and activities per department guidelines.
• Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
• Assists the technologists with ancillary tasks.
• Maintains cleanliness of equipment and department.
• Utilizes and follows proper isolation practices.
• Registers patients for imaging procedures as needed.
• Contributes to the efficient operation of the department ensuring the quality and continuity of patient care.
• Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

Department Specific Duties

• Transports patients for the Radiology department, including ED, Ancillary departments and the nursing floors.
• Keeps workflow moving smoothly.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Excellent verbal and written skills to facilitate communication with medical and technical personnel.
• Ability to deal efficiently and courteously with all hospital personnel.
• Competent with Imaging registration, department information system and EPIC system.
• Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.

Professional Experience

No previous experience required.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Licensure, Certification, Registration

• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association required.

Physical Requirements
