Job Summary
The CT Technologist I is responsible for operating CT equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and adherence to protocols. Responsibilities include preparing and positioning patients, maintaining equipment, and collaborating with radiologists and healthcare team members to deliver accurate and timely diagnostic results. Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to patient-centered care are essential.
Essential Functions
- Operate CT equipment and processing systems to produce diagnostic images, ensuring compliance with protocols.
- Prepare and position patients appropriately, using suitable techniques based on needs and comfort.
- Verify patient identity, review physician orders, and screen for contraindications.
- Explain procedures to patients, address questions, and provide instructions during and after exams.
- Collaborate with radiologists and healthcare team members for accurate and timely care.
- Review images for technical accuracy, present studies to radiologists, and communicate findings.
- Maintain and perform quality control on CT equipment, reporting malfunctions.
- Document patient history and correlate with imaging studies.
- Follow safety protocols, infection control, and radiation safety guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 1-2 years of clinical experience through an accredited radiologic sciences program required.
- 2-4 years of experience as a CT Technologist in an acute care hospital preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in operating CT equipment and producing high-quality images.
- Ability to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Skills in patient preparation and positioning, including safety lifts or additional personnel if needed.
- Competence in maintaining CT equipment.
- Effective collaboration with healthcare team members.
- Knowledge of aseptic, surgical, and radiologic techniques.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
Licenses and Certifications
- Licensed Radiologic Technologist as required by state.
- (R) ARDMS or ARRT - Radiographer preferred.
- CT Certification or eligibility within six months of hire required.
- BCLS - Basic Life Support within 90 days of hire required.
