Job description

CT Technologist I

The CT Tech 1 arranges patients for Computed Tomography examinations, produces CT images to aid in diagnosis, and ensures patient safety by following established imaging protocols. The technologist screens patients for safe administration of contrast media, provides pre‑ and post‑examination education, and operates equipment following departmental policy.

Responsibilities

• Arrange patients for CT examinations and produce high‑quality images for accurate diagnosis.
• Apply radiologic principles, anatomy, and pathology to choose appropriate technique and position, optimizing exams.
• Adhere to protocols and policies to ensure examinations are interpretable and optimized.
• Teach radiography principles to students as required by the organization.
• Communicate effectively with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent, and explain procedures to reduce anxiety.
• Assist physicians during examinations, following standard protocols, isolation precautions, and sterile technique.
• Identify and resolve clinical or emergent problems affecting exams to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Maintain patient safety using side rails, braking mechanisms, and monitoring; report incidents to risk management.
• Report, document, and correct adverse or unsafe conditions.
• Select appropriate IV setups, including heparin locks and central lines for CT procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized environment, restock supplies, and ensure equipment is calibrated and adjusted daily.
• Troubleshoot equipment promptly and report problems to biomedical engineering or vendors.
• Perform routine maintenance of CT equipment to sustain image quality.
• Confirm patient identification and file accuracy to prevent mislabeled studies.
• Track patients per department procedures and correct errors immediately.
• Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives, in‑services, and meetings.
• Act as a backup for other technologists and complete additional duties within the specified time frame.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist Program.
• Good interpersonal, human relations, oral, and written communication skills.
• Strong teamwork and critical‑thinking/decision‑making abilities.
• Superior organizational skills.
• Current State License, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT®), or credentialed candidate with a current temporary license, and Basic Life Support (BLS‑HCP) certification.
