Job summary

Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters is seeking a CT Technologist to collaborate with radiologists to deliver high-quality CT images while upholding ALARA radiation safety standards. You will assist with CT examinations for inpatients, ED and outpatient imaging, and work with Sedation and Anesthesia to schedule add-on/urgent studies.

The role requires ARRT CT certification, CPR (or training within 45 days), and at least one year of radiology experience.

  • Coordinates with Sedation and Anesthesia for add-on/urgent exams.
  • Trains and mentors staff concerning safety and patient preparation.
  • Evaluates CT images for radiation safety and image quality.
  • Performs Daily Radiation QA to follow ALARA guidelines.
  • Provides charge/lead CT Technologist coverage as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

The CT Technologist works with leadership and radiologists to provide, enhance and maintain high levels of radiation safety for producing high quality images. Assures customer satisfaction with all levels of customers (interdepartmental, community and patient/family) for the provision of services. Reports to designated department Supervisor/Manager/Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs and assists with CT examinations and procedures under the direction of a Radiologist to produce exams which are used in medical diagnosis to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions or lesions within the body.
  • Follows established policies, procedures, exam protocols and regulations to promote patient safety and ensure a safe work environment.
  • Provides services to support inpatient, ED and outpatient imaging with ability to perform specialty imaging procedures (abnormal anatomy, congenital cardiac disease etc).
  • Works in conjunction with the Sedation and Anesthesia departments to facilitate and ensure timely placement of add-on/Stat/Urgent examinations.
  • Assists and supports orientation and training of organizational staff, department personnel, new employees and students related to safety, patient preparations, job roles and proper procedures.
  • Evaluates CT images for radiation safety and technical quality.
  • Performs Daily Radiation QA to ensure that the guidelines of ALARA are followed.
  • Seeks guidance from management for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial/operational policies, protocols and standards of practice.
  • Provides charge/lead CT Technologist coverage as trained and assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
  • Registered Computerized Tomography RT (R)(CT) Technologist by the ARRT required.
  • CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • One year of radiology experience required.
  • Proficient with CT principles and procedures as well as operation and maintenance of CT Scanner.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary for effective communication and team work with physicians, clinical personnel, multiple departments, and patients/families.
  • Analytical skills necessary to determine best method of providing requested radiographs based on the individual case and basic technical principles, ensuring clear undistorted radiographs.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, body fluids and other conditions common to the healthcare environment.
