Job summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a Radiologic Technologist in Slidell, Louisiana. This role involves operating imaging equipment, ensuring quality control, and explaining procedures to patients. The ideal candidate will have completed an approved radiologic technology program and possess strong communication skills.

Applicants must be registered by ARRT or eligible for registration within 90 days of employment. Flexibility in work schedule is required, as duties may involve nights, weekends, and travel.

Job description

Job Duties
  • Verifies physician order and procedure to assure accuracy.
  • Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
  • Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
  • Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol (including placement of IV).
  • Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
  • Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and performing notification/remediation as warranted.
  • Assists in the facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Education

Required – Completion of an approved radiologic technology program.

Work Experience

Required – None. Preferred – CT experience.

Certifications
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or computed tomography ARRT (CT) certified OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registry eligible, registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 90 days of employment, and temporary state license.
  • CT registry eligible within one year.
  • Advanced certification in CT within one year of becoming CT registry eligible.
  • Current unrestricted license in state of practice.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Preferred – Advanced certification in CT by a mechanism acceptable to the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of CT procedures and technical language.
  • Ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure.
  • Ability to be self-directed and to function without direct supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to have and maintain flexibility in work duties and hours (may require flexible schedule such as nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, etc.) and travel throughout and between facilities.
  • General knowledge of cardiac anatomy, Doppler physics, and the hemodynamics of blood flow in relation to the various disease states.
  • Ability to preliminarily identify stenosis or occlusion based on nationally published criteria.
  • Ability to assist attending physicians with interventional procedures requiring ultrasonic guidance.
Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue. The incumbent works within a patient care area; exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste is possible.
