Job summary

UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh is seeking a full-time CT Technologist to perform computed tomography procedures, manage contrast administration, and ensure high-quality imaging. You will work with advanced CT technology in a busy clinical setting and support patient care with precision and empathy.

New graduates are encouraged to apply and training will be provided. Rotating daylight, evening, and overnight shifts with two 8-hour and two 12-hour shifts weekly, plus rotating weekends.

Qualifications

• ARRT certification required for CT technologists.
• CNMT certification preferred or required per role.
• CT board certification within 18 months of hire or after start.
• BLS/CPR certification required; renewal as needed.
• FBI clearance and Act 31/33/34/73 compliance.

Responsibilities

• Performs CT procedures including contrast administration and data acquisition.
• Ensures proper coding, RIS/ISITE archiving, and accurate exam charges.
• Administers contrast, assesses patient risk, and communicates clearly.
• Interacts professionally with patients and staff, maintaining dignity.
• Collaborates with department teammates to expedite patient care.
• Identifies patients using two identifiers and documents history.
• Demonstrates venipuncture technique and adheres to safety policies.

Work Schedule:

• Rotating daylight, evening, and overnight shifts.

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary based on individual experience and education, at manager discretion.

Starting Rates:

• CT Technologist - $32.21
• CT Technologist Advanced - $34.45

Applicants with at least 6 months of experience are eligible for our Night Program ($4.00 shift differential) and our Weekend Program (additional 15% incentive to salary)! Details can be provided during the interview process!

Responsibilities:

• Performs computed tomography procedures, including contrast administration, and utilizes complex imaging equipment for the acquisition, analysis, and documentation of image data.
• Ensures all exams within area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through RIS system, all exams are properly networked to ISITE for archiving and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the exams performed.
• Administers PO, rectal, and IV contrast per physician orders/department policy and assesses patients for potential risk factors prior to the administration of the contrast.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner, and explains procedures to help allay the patient's fears and solicit their cooperation.
• Demonstrates a strong ability to interact with both patients and co-workers, while displaying a high level of caring, listening, dignity, and respect.
• Able to work as a team member within the department and all other departments to expedite patient care efficiently.
• Identifies all patients properly by using two patient identifiers.
• Reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, and documents patient history in electronic record, as required.
• Demonstrates proper technique in venipuncture.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• ARRT Certificate OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (CNMT)
• Must obtain CT Board Certification within 18 months of hire date or primary registry acquisition.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting, Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI clearance with renewals.
