Job Description
Operates Computed Tomography equipment, prepares for examination, and ensures proper information has been obtained for the physician to make a diagnosis. Assists in the management of patient flow and presents images mounted for physician diagnosis. Operates x-ray and auxiliary equipment and processes images. Maintains and cleans equipment. Maintains required documentation.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepares patient for examination.
- Explains procedure in layman terms to relieve patient of pretesting anxiety.
- Administers oral contrast material for abdominal scans.
- Sets up equipment to administer the procedure.
- Ensures patient is screened according to protocol, and assures consent for the procedure has been obtained when necessary.
- Monitors patient condition.
- Maintains observation of the patient during the entire examination.
- Recognizes and promptly reports to the physician any changes in the patient's condition or motor abnormalities, including fainting, discoloration, contrast reactions, etc.
- Performs CT procedures including: abdominal, thoracic, neuro exams, extremities, implant planning, radiation therapy planning, biopsies, etc.
- Places patient on the exam table and positions within the gantry.
- Enters patient history data and other pertinent information from requisitions.
- Calculates the number of scans based on patient size and operates the equipment to obtain required images.
- Contacts Radiologist for review and additional scanning if needed. Transmits cases via Tele-Radiology system.
- Transfers images to film and archives disc memory to tape.
- Assists with administration of IV contrast.
- Prepares patients for roentgenographic and fluoroscopy examinations.
- Operates x-ray and auxiliary equipment, processes images, and maintains equipment in efficient condition.
- Maintains work area in optimal condition.
- Sets up and operates stationary and mobile x-ray equipment.
- Prepares and maintains documentation.
- Performs various x-ray exams following established standards and procedures, positions patients, adjusts equipment, and monitors patient condition.
- Processes and labels images correctly, maintains records, and ensures proper image marking and labeling.
- Facilitates patient flow and transport as necessary.
- Performs related duties as required.

Job Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
- New York State Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registered Technologist (R.T.) with registration in Computed Tomography (CT) within 18 months of employment.
- Previous radiology and CT experience required, with at least 2 years of CT experience.
- ARRT CT Certification and NYS IV Injection Certification required.
