POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of a Radiologist, the CT Technologist performs exams at a technical level that does not require direct supervision over technical details. This role requires advanced medical imaging knowledge, including skills in cross-sectional anatomy. A comprehensive understanding of all diagnostic CT exams and interventional procedures is essential. The technologist uses independent judgment, ingenuity, and acquired knowledge to obtain quality diagnostic images and assists with interventional procedures.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- High school diploma or GED; graduation from an ARRT-approved Radiological Technology School program is required.
- Registration and certification with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists and licensure with the State of Connecticut are required.
- Must stay current with ARRT continuing education requirements and maintain an active ARRT certification.
- Expected to obtain advanced certification in Computerized Tomography from ARRT within one year of hire.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support is required upon hire, with ongoing maintenance of clinical competency.
COMPETENCIES:
- Extensive knowledge of CT exams and interventional procedures; capable of performing exams independently.
- Proficient in physics, anatomy, medical terminology, sterile technique, and radiation protection related to CT practice.
- Effective communication skills in English.
- Ability to work cooperatively with department staff, sharing in rotational call and holiday hours.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job-Specific Competency
- Verify that patient’s clinical data matches the ordered exam; follow up with the doctor’s office if discrepancies arise.
- Assist Radiologist in interventional procedures, coordinate with the Radiology Nurse, and ensure the room is properly prepared and cleaned post-procedure.
- Screen female patients of childbearing age for pregnancy.
- Demonstrate skill in IV insertion.
- Document exams accurately in the radiology system for proper billing.
- Manage own schedule, document patient flow, and adapt to emergency and inpatient requests; assist with patient transportation as needed.
- Perform all types of CT scans competently.
- Operate the teleradiology system during off-hours, troubleshoot issues, and contact support if necessary.
- Select appropriate protocols based on patient age and size.
- Complete and review computer documentation (Meditech), ensuring accuracy for billing and radiologist review.
- Transport patients when necessary.
- Perform quality assurance following American College of Radiology guidelines for CT.
- Review post-procedure instructions with patients.
- Troubleshoot electronic equipment such as scanners, workstations, and printers.
- Respond independently to call-outs for procedures, including traveling to affiliated or contracted locations.
