Position Summary
Performs professional duties related to a variety of radiographic technical procedures and CT Scan procedures using ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis and therapy. Has the latitude for independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to complete the requested procedure within the scope of his/her license. Assists in mentoring student technologists in their clinical rotation of Trinity Health Grand Haven.
What you will do
- Perform CT scans of all types including head, body, and extremity scans.
- Perform interventional CT scans for biopsies or various drainage procedures.
- Position the patient carefully and accurately to obtain the requested examination; adapt positioning due to variations such as trauma, patient age, patient body habitus, or suspected or known pathology to produce diagnostic images according to developed protocols and accepted medical practice. Apply supportive and/or immobilization devices as necessary.
- Select the correct CT scan factors (mA, kVp, slice width, helical vs. non-helical, etc.) to produce high quality images; adapt technical factors for unusual variations of the patient or other factors (pathology, etc.).
- Provide the appropriate radiation shielding and collimation to adhere to ALARA principles. Provide for the radiation safety of all persons in the area where radiation is employed.
- Perform office/clerical duties in the absence of clerical support staff.
- Place orders and charges in the Hospital Information computer as necessary.
- Give pertinent preparatory instructions for the test.
- Obtain the patient’s name, date of birth, phone number and MPI number if known.
- Obtain pertinent clinical history that supports the procedure being ordered and consult the ordering physician or nurse when the information is inadequate.
- Obtain any required laboratory values prior to the procedure.
- Secure all necessary supplies to maintain a prudent inventory level for patient care.
What you will need
- Graduate of an approved school of Radiographic Technology.
- Current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography, RT(R), without restriction, must be CT registered within one (1) year.
