Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a CT Technologist I or II to deliver safe, high-quality imaging across Union Memorial, Good Samaritan, Franklin Square, and Harbor Hospitals in Baltimore, MD. Full-time roles include a $25,000 sign-on bonus and opportunities to advance within a mission-driven system.

Candidates should have an associate degree or radiologic technology certificate, ARRT CT and Radiography registration, and CT experience or completion of a CT certificate.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or radiologic technology certificate is required.
• ARRT CT and Radiography registration preferred/required.
• CT experience or CT certificate/cross-training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Executes basic clinical competency in CT across locations and patient populations, selecting factors based on patient needs.
• Adheres to dose reduction principles and performs IV access and contrast administration per policy.
• Assists with invasive procedures under CT guidance and maintains safety and imaging quality.
• Participates in performance improvement initiatives and supports training and onboarding.
• Maintains clean, safe work areas and prepares examination rooms and supplies accordingly.
• Transports patients, verifies orders, and ensures appropriate scanning protocols are used.
• Communicates with patients to obtain history, answer questions, and explain procedures.
• Documents care activities in the EHR and distributes final images to PACS timely.
• Demonstrates professionalism aligned with SPIRIT values and ARRT ethics.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Executes basic clinical competency in CT across all locations and patient populations. Selects appropriate technical factors based on individual patient needs and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care. Adheres to Image Wisely and Image Gently principles to support radiation dose reduction. Performs IV access and administers contrast according to facility policy. Assists with invasive procedures performed under CT guidance.




• Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives and workflow optimization efforts to enhance patient experience, quality, safety, operational efficiency, and overall patient care. Actively contributes to student and employee training, onboarding, and educational activities.




• Maintains a clean, safe, and prepared work environment, including cleaning and preparing patient rooms. Maintains adequate supplies and inventory within the assigned area. Prepares contrast administration and invasive procedure areas using aseptic technique and sterile processes in accordance with established protocols.




• Transports patients to the CT scanner and prepares the examination room. Verifies orders, patient preparation, and the reason for the exam to ensure appropriate scanning protocols are utilized. Communicates effectively with patients by obtaining medical history, answering questions, and explaining procedures to promote patient understanding, comfort, and cooperation. Processes examinations for interpretation.




• Ensures the proper maintenance and operation of equipment by performing quality control procedures and promptly reporting equipment or environmental concerns.




• Provides patient education and support, including preparing patients for procedures and addressing their physical and emotional needs. Escalates concerns through appropriate channels as needed.




• Prioritizes patient flow and coordinates care through consistent and effective communication with patients, care teams, and families. Documents patient care activities in applicable electronic health record systems and distributes final images to the PACS system in a timely manner for interpretation.




• Consistently acts and communicates professionally, embodying the organization's SPIRIT values and fostering a respectful, supportive environment for patients, families, and colleagues. Adheres to ARRT Standards of Ethics.




• Applies knowledge of CT principles and practices, including anatomy and physiology, radiation safety, physics, patient positioning, and patient care techniques. Complies with Joint Commission, state, federal, organizational, and departmental regulatory requirements and standards.

Qualifications

Education

• Associate degreerequired; or




• Certificate in Radiologic Technology from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE), the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or the Medical Education and Training Campus (METC)required.

Experience

• Less than 1 year to 6 months of CT experiencerequired; or




• Successful completion of a CT certificate or cross-training program preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

• Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography [ARRT(R)] and Computed Tomography [ARRT(CT)]required; or




• Registered by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) in Computed Tomography [NMTCB(CT)]required; or




• 10 years of CT scanning experience (applicable only to internal candidates employed prior to July 1, 2026)required.




• Basic Life Support (BLS) / Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificationrequiredupon hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.




• Basic computer skillspreferred.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $35.68 - USD $58.84 /Hr.
