Job summary

UNM HOSPITALS is seeking a CT technologist to provide patient imaging in a Level I trauma center. You will operate Siemens CT scanners, position patients, prepare contrast media, and follow strict radiation safety and ALARA protocols.

The role involves assisting in patient care across age groups, completing paperwork, and supporting education for students and staff. City-based on-site shift coverage with rotating duties is expected.

Qualifications

  • Must be CT certified radiologic technologist.
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS within 30 days.
  • ARRT CT certification within 2 years and NM licensure requirements.
  • Experience with level I trauma imaging preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform CT imaging on Siemens platforms according to protocols.
  • Operate imaging equipment and assist with patient positioning.
  • Administer contrast media as directed and ensure safe handling.
  • Follow ALARA and radiation safety standards.
  • Complete paperwork and exam checklists accurately.
  • Instruct students and staff as required.
  • Maintain supplies and assist in reception or film library tasks.
  • May float to other areas as needed for patient care.

Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Shift Supervisor, provide patient services in a Level I Trauma Center. Perform Computed Tomo-Graphical procedures by operating a variety of Siemens platform scanners. The variety and complexity include but are not limited to Musculoskeletal, Neuro, and Body Imaging by following assigned protocols. The delivery of quality service and positive interaction with customers is critical to the completion of all tasks. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include; Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

  • X-RAY - Follow prescribed techniques to administer specific radiation for imaging purposes; adjust equipment; calculate exposure factors; position and immobilizes patients, as necessary; use appropriate lead shielding
  • EQUIPMENT - Operate imaging equipment, computer and other assistive devices according to department standards
  • PAPERWORK - Complete and verify all appropriate paperwork involved in but not limited to exams, patient education, lab results and patient check lists
  • SAFETY - Provide protection to patients, family members, staff and self in accordance with prescribed radiation safety standards and ALARA
  • OBSERVATION - Observe patient and equipment during procedures; document patient reactions or problems on requisition and report immediately to supervisor
  • PATIENT CARE - Assume care for physical needs of the patient during examinations and procedures
  • CONTRAST MEDIA - Prepare and administer contrast media/agents
  • IMAGING - Assist physician with imaging process; follow Radiology Department protocols
  • QUALITY CONTROL - Assume responsibility for portions of the quality control programs and provide instruction as required
  • CLINICAL EDUCATION - Instruct specific units of didactic and/or clinical education as required to students, clinical staff and residents
  • SUPPLIES - Clean assigned area; maintain stock supply levels through inventory control and requisitioning
  • PATIENT ASSISTANCE - Assist in reception area, scheduling office and/or film library; aid patients and transport them, as necessary
  • FLOAT - May be required to float to another work assignment/area
  • DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
  • PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
  • PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
  • PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
  • PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
  • MEDICATION - Under the supervision or direction of a Radiologist, safely and properly retrieve, handle, store, and waste select medications for use during the setup, performance, and cleanup of radiology procedures

  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
  • CT Cert by ARRT w/in 2 years
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists License
  • Intermediate Life Support Certification w/in 6 months
  • NM Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program Lic NMMIRTP
  • NMMIRTP CT licensure provisional w/in 6wks DOP up to 2 yrs

Credential equivalent experience:

  • NM Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program (NMMIRTP) CT licensure - must obtain within 6 weeks of date of position and may be provisional for up to 2 years from date of position
Physical Conditions:

Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
