Job summary

Regional One Health in Memphis, TN seeks a Radiology CT Technologist to perform CT scans for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, using independent judgment to ensure quality images.

You will review orders, prepare equipment and patients, operate CT scanners, monitor for safety, and document procedures for accurate charges and records. Requires AMA radiology technology program training and ARRT credentials; CT certification within two years; CPR/BLS; and preferably 1 year of radiology experience.

Qualifications

  • Completion of AMA-recognized radiology technology program.
  • Able to work with neonate to geriatric patients as assigned.
  • ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology required within 2 years.
  • CT-ARRT (CT) certification within 2 years.
  • CPR/BLS certification Upon Hire.
  • Minimum 1 year radiology technologist experience preferred.

Performs computerized tomography scans (CT Scans) for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Performs various technical procedures utilizing independent judgment.

What you will do

Reviews patient's medical record and physician’s request prior to CT procedure to obtain and record identifying information required for the treatment and patient records. Demonstrates knowledge and skills and maintains competencies required to provide care appropriate to age of the patients served within department.

Determines proper settings; selects and prepares equipment and supplies as needed for each exam/procedure. Exercises judgment in selecting proper computed setting.

Performs CT-Scan for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes as ordered by physician, consistent with patient care policies and procedures, demonstrated competencies, and with consideration given to risk management, infection control practices, patient safety practices and departmental activities.

  • Explains procedure to patient/family member in a caring, compassionate, and sensitive manner.
  • Positions and immobilizes patient.
  • Assists in preparing and administering opaque media.
  • Adjusts/operates imaging and other equipment to scan designated portions of the body and set computer controls equipment and camera to produce desired images.
  • Observes patient and equipment during procedure.
  • Reports adverse or any unusual reactions or events.
  • Photographs images and process film/images in accordance with established procedures.
  • Recognizes and corrects technical errors to ensure a clear and accurate scan/image.
  • Practices radiation safety through appropriate use of radiation protection devices and adhering to radiation safety standards to protect patient and staff and to comply with regulatory agencies and requirements.
  • Ensures accurate documentation in performing and processing all procedures in order to capture all charges and other relevant information.
  • Operates the Radiology Information System to enter required test data and patient information, using all appropriate modules with accuracy. Ensures patient information and images are correctly transmitted to PACS system.

Documents care based on standards of care and practice and/or clinical priorities for documentation (assessment, CT procedure, and patient's response during procedure).

Responds and/or participates with medical emergencies. Initiates and/or assists with CPR/BLS/ACLS as required.

Prepares and maintains adequate records of patient files, tape numbers, drug usages and other required records, reports and files for administrative and compliance purposes. Utilizes patient computer systems to enter and retrieve data.

Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies).

Participates in quality/performance improvement. Collects quality data for monitoring performance improvement and to produce the best value service.

Assists with maintenance and care of department equipment and utilizes supplies in a cost effective manner. Maintains stock level of supplies and materials.

Provides support to radiology and other medical and hospital staff to provide clinical assistance as needed. Assists in orientation and supervision of new staff members and students when they provide patient care, treatment and services as part of their training.

Maintains a clean, orderly safe environment for patients and personnel. Prepares or cleans patient rooms by changing linens, stocking supplies and wiping off tables and equipment. Adheres to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, and safety, environment and infection control standards.

Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities which includes committees, monitoring and follow-up.

Provides coverage for relief and absences. Demonstrates flexibility to work night, weekend, holiday shifts and on-call to provide continuous Radiology coverage as required.

Qualifications
  • Completion of training in an approved AMA radiology technology program Required
  • Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the neonate, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates Required
  • ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required within two (2) years of hire date. Required and
  • CT - Computed Tomography Certified Computerized Tomography Technologist ARRT (CT) must be obtained within two (2) years of assignment. Required and
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire Required or
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
  • Minimum 1 year experience of experience as a radiology technologist Preferred
