Job summary

UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC is looking for a Radiology CT student to assist in preparing patients and performing diagnostic CT imaging under supervision. You will learn to position patients, set technical factors, and assist with fluoroscopy while maintaining strict safety and infection control practices.

Responsibilities include observing contrast administration under supervision, ensuring patient identifiers, documenting procedures, and supporting throughput in ER and floor units.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED with enrollment in an AMA-approved radiologic technology program.
• Must be in a CT tech certification course.
• Includes knowledge of patient prep, history taking, and consent for CT imaging.
• Understanding of ALARA principles and radiation safety practices.

Responsibilities

• PREPARES PATIENT FOR PROCEDURE: Identifies patient using two identifiers and two sources; documents pregnancy; notes discrepancies; maintains patient care records.
• PRODUCES DIAGNOSTIC QUALITY EXAMS ACCORDING TO DEPARTMENTAL COMPETENCY: Sets technical factors; positions patient; completes quality exams; maintains competency under supervision.
• MAINTAINS THE SAFETY: Proper shielding; minimizes repeats; complies with ALARA and safety protocols; infection control practices.
• ASSISTS RADIOLOGIST IN PERFORMING FLUORO PROCEDURES: Sets up room with proper supplies for radiological study.
• MAINTAINS COMPETENCY THROUGH EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Participates in in-service education; stays informed of policies and changes.
• IDENTIFIES AND ADDRESSES NEEDS OF DIFFERENT PATIENT AGE GROUPS: Communicates effectively with pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients.
