RWJBarnabas Health in Hamilton, NJ, seeks a Central Supply Technician for CSP Tech. You will clean, sterilize, assemble instruments, and ensure availability for procedures, supporting patient care through meticulous processing, inventory control, and adherence to safety standards.

The role requires certification through HSPA or CBSPD (or equivalent) and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment with strict regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

Must hold current certification through HSPA or CBSPD as required by NJ Department of Health.
Ability to participate in ongoing departmental education and training.
Weekend, on‑call, and holiday availability is required for full‑time evening shift.

Responsibilities

Perform decontamination, cleaning, disinfection, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of instruments and equipment.
Operate instrument washers, cart washers, ultrasonic cleaners, sterilizers, and related equipment.
Inspect instruments for cleanliness, function, and damage before assembly and sterilization.
Prepare and assemble surgical trays and case carts for procedures and OR workflow.
Select appropriate sterilization containers, wraps, and pouches and document labeling.
Conduct sterilizer QA testing and monitor cycles to ensure compliance with standards.
Manage inventory levels of instruments and supplies to support operations.
Follow infection prevention practices and PPE requirements when handling materials.
Collaborate with OR staff and other departments to source needed instruments promptly.

Pay Range: $23.85 - $29.52 per hour (New Jersey)

Overview

Central Supply Technicians support safe, high-quality patient care by ensuring surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies are properly cleaned, sterilized, assembled, and available when needed. This role offers opportunities for professional growth, specialized technical experience, and a culture of quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Typical Day

Performing the decontamination, cleaning, disinfection, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment in accordance with established standards and best practices.
Operating instrument washers, cart washers, ultrasonic cleaners, sterilizers, and other specialized equipment while following departmental policies and manufacturer guidelines.
Inspecting surgical instruments and equipment for cleanliness, proper function, and damage before assembly and sterilization.
Preparing and assembling surgical trays and case carts accurately to support scheduled procedures and efficient operating room workflow.
Selecting appropriate sterilization containers, wraps, and pouches based on instrument type while ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
Performing sterilizer quality assurance testing, monitoring sterilization cycles, and documenting results to verify compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
Managing inventory levels of instruments and supplies to support uninterrupted clinical operations and timely case preparation.
Using cleaning agents, disinfectants, and sterilization chemicals safely while following infection prevention practices and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
Collaborating with operating room staff and other clinical departments to obtain needed instruments and equipment promptly while supporting efficient patient care.
Assisting with staff orientation, on‑job training, and departmental education while contributing to a collaborative, quality-focused work environment.
