Job summary

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a Respiratory Care Professional to join a night shift team supporting Intensive Care Units, Emergency Departments and Medical/Surgical floors across CHOA hospitals. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to assess, treat and monitor patients from neonate to adult, ensuring safe, high-quality care.

The role requires 6 months of RCP experience, a Georgia license, and BLS/PALS requirements.

Qualifications

  • 6 months of RCP experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Neonatal-Pediatric Specialty credential preferred.
  • 2 years of RCP experience preferred.
  • Graduation from an approved diploma or associates degree program with the RRT credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Care for patients across the neonatal to adult age range per CHOA guidelines.
  • Accesses and follows hospital policies.
  • Participates in discharge planning.
  • Maintains Joint Commission readiness and unit safety.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, high-quality care.
  • Provides education to patients and families as needed.
  • Contributes to PI processes and unit-based customer service initiatives.

Job Description

Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive patient care services. To proactively support the efforts that will ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and to promote a safe environment at Children's. Will provide staffing support to Intensive Care Units, Emergency Departments and Medical/Surgical floors at Arthur M. Blank, Hughes Spalding, and Scottish Rite Hospitals.

Experience
  • 6 months of RCP experience required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Neonatal-Pediatric Specialty credential
  • 2 years of RCP experience preferred
Education
  • Graduation from an approved diploma or associates degree program with the RRT credentials
Certification Summary
  • Current license in the state of Georgia as a Respiratory Care Professional
  • BLS is required within 30 days of hire
  • PALS certification is required within one year of hire date
  • AARC member preferred
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • 75% attendance at staff meetings if applicable
  • Completes mandatory education requirements as defined by unit and system by due date
  • Maintains minimum of 15 CEU/education hours per year
Job Responsibilities
  • While clinical staff may serve a specific patient population, they have the potential to care for patients within the age population range served at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Clinical staff will have competencies that will incorporate population specific guidelines. This age population includes N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult, ALL - all ages.
  • Accesses and follows policies.
  • Uses resources effectively to assist in maintaining budget.
  • Participates in the PI process.
  • Participates in maintaining and monitoring the work environment to ensure a continual state of Joint Commission readiness.
  • Participates in discharge planning.
  • Reads clinical research and EBP articles posted on the unit and questions care as it relates to EBP.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive assessment skills.
  • Demonstrates rapid recognition of subtle changes in patient status and takes appropriate action while maintaining professional composure.
  • Evaluates patient’s response to interventions and adjusts plan of care accordingly.
  • Recognizes the existence of clinical practice trends and research, and questions care as it relates to EBP.
  • Consistently and independently prioritizes patient care.
  • Includes family in patient care.
  • Provides effective education appropriate for learning needs of patient/family.
  • Participates in unit-based customer service initiatives.
  • Effectively communicates using SBAR with all team members and physicians including transfer and the discharge process. Questions any inaccuracies or deviation from practice standards.
  • Resolves situations of conflict involving patients, families, and staff and seeks appropriate resources when necessary.
  • Appropriately communicates and demonstrates cohesive behavior among team members.
  • Seeks resources by actively consulting with interdisciplinary team.
  • Appropriately delegates tasks.
  • Demonstrates support of CHOICE and unit committees.
  • Supports unit and department goals.
