PRATT & WHITNEY seeks an experienced Structural Analysis Engineer for the Compression Systems Engineering team in Middletown, CT. You will provide structures analytical support for gas-turbine compressor components, using FEM and classical methods to assess strength, vibration, fatigue life, and damage tolerance.

Travel about 10% and lead less experienced engineers while coordinating cross-functional design solutions.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 8+ years of experience.
  • Advanced degree with 5+ years of experience.
  • Experience with FEM for stress/deflection, vibration, and damage tolerance analyses.
  • U.S. citizenship is required to access program information.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do
  • Provide structures analytical support for commercial programs, with responsibility for the durability and structural integrity of gas-turbine compressor components (HPC). This includes airfoils, rotors & shafts, cases, and actuation linkage systems. Responsibilities include:
  • Provide analytical support for preliminary & detailed design, through development, validation, certification, manufacturing and operational service.
  • Use FE and classical methods for strength, stress/deflection, vibration, fatigue life, damage tolerance, containment, kinematic and optimization analyses.
  • Cover validation testing (engine and rig) and data-reduction.
  • Support in-service field investigations.
  • Participate on multi-discipline teams to provide design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost and weight.
  • Provide leadership oversight and technical guidance for less experienced engineers and outsourced tasks.
  • Coordinate with others to advance technology and improve engineering standard work processes/methods.
  • Document and present results to management and external customers.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 8+ years of experience OR
  • Advanced degree with 5+ years of experience
  • Background in structural analysis and 8+ years of experience, with demonstrated problem solving skills using FEM for stress/deflection, vibration, and performing LCF, HCF, Fracture Mechanics or Kinematics analyses. .
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Compression Systems Engineering (CSE)

Compression Systems Engineering is responsible for the design, development, and in service support of all fans low-pressure and high-pressure compressors for commercial and military engine models. CSE is responsible for the identification and maturation of new technologies for these products.

Technical disciplines in CSE include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, and Product Definition.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
