JLG, an Oshkosh company, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern in Orrville, OH. You will work with the Customer Support Engineering team on diverse projects, applying CAD tools to design, analyze and test mechanical systems and components.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a mechanical engineering degree with a 3.0+ GPA, strong communication skills, and an interest in mechanical design. Internship is full-time and based in our office environment.

  • GPA of 3.0 or above.

Responsibilities

  • Design, model and test mechanical systems and components.
  • Execute CIRs to support manufacturing, supply chain and operations.
  • Prepare/revise vehicle component layouts using CAD tools.
  • Create and manage ECN's using the PLM system.
  • Update bill of materials to reflect product changes.
  • Assist in prototype, pilot or production builds on the assembly floor.

In this role, you will support the Customer Support Engineering team on a variety of key projects and initiatives, ranging from routine engineering tasks to more complex analytical projects.**YOUR IMPACT***These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned:** Design, model and test new mechanical systems that integrate with a JLG’s.* Research and execute on continuous improvement request (CIR’s) to support manufacturing, supply chain, and customer feedback/operations.* Work with global engineering resources to prepare/revise/review vehicle component layouts using CAD (i.e. Creo Parametric)* Create and manage ECN’s (Engineering Change Notices) using the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system.* Update bill of materials in the PDM (Product Data Management) system to reflect product changes.* Follow project on the assembly floor for prototype, pilot, or production build and provide technical assistance.* Generate engineering calculations of weight distribution, stress analysis, performance estimations, etc.* Consult with suppliers, customers, and internal departments to find solutions to problems.* Perform or assist in the testing of complete vehicles or vehicle components.**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*** Student working towards a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or other related engineering field.* Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.**STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS*** Good oral and written communication skills.* Previous internship experience or work-related experience.* Previous experience or heightened interest in mechanical design.* Experience in extracurricular activities outside academic requirements (SAE teams, etc..)* Experience using Creo Parametric, Pro-E, CATIA or a similar CAD system is a plus.* Understanding of basic steel and sheet metal fabrication principles* Knowledge of construction industry and equipment used.* Strong mechanical aptitude**WORKING CONDITIONS***The following represents general working conditions for this office-based role.
