Job summary

OU Health is seeking a Clinical Support Assistant for the Comprehensive Care Unit (Days) on the 3rd Floor Overflow. Under RN supervision, you will perform routine patient care tasks and assist with admissions, discharges, and transports.

Responsibilities include monitoring vitals, glucose checks, telemetry setup, wound care assistance, and maintaining patient room readiness. HS diploma or GED required; BLS certification upon hire is mandatory.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• No prior experience required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Under RN supervision, monitor patient health status and help implement the plan of care.
• Take and record blood pressures, temperatures, pulse and weight.
• Perform blood glucose monitoring as directed.
• Set up and discontinue telemetry monitoring as needed.
• Assist with admission, discharge and transfer processes.
• Keep patient rooms clean and stocked with supplies; assist in transports as needed.

Position Title: CSA - Clinical Support Assistant - Comprehensive Care Unit - Days Department: 3rd Floor Overflow Job Description:

Under general supervision of a registered nurse, performs routine tasks in patient care.

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position.

• Under general supervision of the RN and in collaboration with the patient and family, systematically and continually monitors the patient’s health status and implements the plan of care.

• Carries out physician and nursing orders as directed by the RN that is within scope.

• Takes/records blood pressures, temperatures, pulse and weighs patients.

• Performs blood glucose monitoring.

• Sets up and discontinues telemetry monitor.

• Collects specimens as directed.

• Applies sterile dressings, removal of sutures, staples and/or drains. Performs all sterile procedures as assigned.

• Performs stomal irrigation and applies colostomy pouches.

• Performs oral suctioning.

• Takes emergency action as needed and within scope.

• Performs all treatments and procedures as defined on initial skills checklist.

• Reports symptoms and significant changes in patient’s condition or behavior to RN.

• Assists with admission, discharge and transfer process.

• Transports patients to and from various treatment centers when necessary; assists transporters in moving patients in and out of stretchers and wheelchairs.

• Keeps the patient’s room in clean and orderly condition; makes beds, replaces soiled linen.

• Assists in restocking rooms with supplies and equipment as directed.

• When assigned to one patient as a safety attendant, provides care, observes the patient and does not leave the patient alone.

General Responsibilities
