Essential Job Functions

School Climate, Culture & Restorative Practices

Under the supervision of the Community School Director, implement proactive strategies and school-wide initiatives that strengthen school culture, encourage positive student behavior, and support students' social-emotional well-being.

Foster a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and supportive school environment that promotes positive relationships, student belonging, and a strong sense of community.

Utilize restorative practices, conflict resolution techniques, and appropriate de-escalation strategies to address student conflicts, promote accountability, repair relationships, and support a positive school climate.

Facilitate restorative circles, community-building activities, student workshops, and other structured interventions designed to strengthen peer relationships, encourage positive decision-making, and foster mutual respect.

Build meaningful, trusting relationships with students to promote engagement, strengthen school connectedness, and create an environment where students feel valued, supported, and empowered.

Provide individualized and small-group support to students experiencing behavioral, social-emotional, or interpersonal challenges, in alignment with established school-based intervention strategies.

Collaborate with the Community School Director, school administrators, teachers, and relevant support personnel to identify student needs, implement targeted interventions, and monitor progress toward positive behavioral and developmental outcomes.

Engage families as partners in supporting students' social-emotional development, positive behavior, and overall school experience, while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Support student engagement and positive behavior within classrooms, hallways, common areas, and other school settings, in coordination with school stakeholders.

Work collaboratively with the Community School Director, school administration, teachers, student support teams, and other stakeholders to align culture and climate initiatives with school-wide priorities and identified student needs.

Participate in relevant school-based meetings, including Community School Team, attendance, school culture, and school safety meetings, as appropriate to the scope of the position.

Maintain consistent communication with the Community School Director regarding student engagement, emerging behavioral trends, school climate concerns, and opportunities for targeted support.

Participate in professional development, training, and capacity-building opportunities offered by New York Edge, the Office of Community Schools, and NYC Public Schools to strengthen knowledge of restorative practices, youth development, student engagement, and school climate strategies.
