Job summary

Equal1 is seeking an experienced Cryogenic Systems Engineer in California to join the cryomechanical and quantum system integration team. You will oversee development of compact mK cryocooler systems from concept to customer delivery, working with absorption and GM cooling, and supporting Joule-Thomson systems at 4K/30K stages.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of cryogenic system design experience.
• Experience with sub-4K cryostat design and low-temperature integration.
• Experience with GM, pulse tube, or Joule-Thomson cryocoolers.
• Knowledge of He-4 / He-3 phase diagram and cryogenic cooling cycles.
• CFD or thermal modelling experience.
• CAD basics for component design and 3D CAD familiarity.
• Practical understanding of vacuum and helium systems, assembly, and temperature control.
• Strong cross-disciplinary communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop thermodynamic and gas-flow concepts for cryogenic cooling systems.
• Simulate cooling cycles, gas flows, thermal performance, and system behaviour.
• Define concepts and requirements for cryogenic components with CAD teams.
• Support design and integration of cryogenic turbocompressor systems.
• Oversee manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing of cryogenic systems.
• Collaborate with vacuum, helium handling, and instrumentation teams.
• Support certification and delivery of cryocooler systems to customers.
