Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business, or related field.
  • 5-7+ years of crude oil trading or related commercial experience.
  • Strong understanding of North American pipeline systems, basis markets, tariffs, storage, nominations, and physical logistics.

Responsibilities

  • Originate, structure, negotiate, and execute physical crude oil transactions across spot, monthly, and term horizons.
  • Develop market views and manage positions to maximize value within risk parameters.
  • Partner with scheduling, midstream and operations teams to execute commercial strategies and optimize movements.
  • Maintain strong commercial relationships with counterparties and producers.
  • Build valuation models, perform scenario analysis, and prepare reporting for management and risk oversight.
  • Uphold strict compliance, credit, and operational controls.

Job description

The Crude Oil Trader will be responsible for optimizing the value of the company's crude oil production through the development and execution of commercial strategies across assigned assets and markets. This role manages physical crude oil transactions, evaluates markets and transportation opportunities, negotiates commercial agreements, and works closely with scheduling, operations, and other internal stakeholders to ensure reliable market access and maximize realized value. The position requires the ability to independently identify opportunities, manage commercial risk, and make timely decisions in a dynamic market environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Originate, structure, negotiate, and execute physical crude oil transactions across spot, monthly, and term horizons.
  • Develop market views, identify trading and commercial opportunities, and manage positions to maximize realized value within established risk parameters.
  • Partner with scheduling, midstream and operations teams to execute commercial strategies and optimize crude oil movements.
  • Maintain strong commercial relationships with counterparties, pipelines, terminals, producers, and marketers.
  • Build valuation models, perform scenario analysis, and prepare reporting & presentations for management and risk oversight.
  • Uphold strict compliance, credit, and operational controls.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business, or related field.
  • 5-7+ years of crude oil trading, marketing, origination, or other relevant commercial experience, with demonstrated knowledge of physical crude oil markets.
  • Strong understanding of North American pipeline systems, basis markets, tariffs, storage, nominations, and physical logistics.
  • Demonstrated analytical capability and disciplined risk management.
  • Experience with trading/scheduling platforms (e.g. Allegro, Endur) and advanced Excel modeling.
Preferred
  • Established industry relationships with refiners, marketers, midstream companies, and other crude oil market participants.
  • Demonstrated track record of identifying and executing commercial opportunities that improve realized value and/or margins.
  • Experience trading Permian crude oil markets
  • Strong understanding of crude oil pricing, market dynamics, optionality, and physical arbitrage opportunities.
  • Experience compiling Power Point presentations and ability to clearly and concisely present to executive management & other stakeholders
