Job summary

Aviagen is seeking a Farm Associate I to support poultry care across barns, hatcheries, and processing areas. You will manage egg collection, grading, and data recording while maintaining clean, safe facilities and assisting with live birds throughout the facility.

The role requires physical stamina, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and adherence to animal care standards and bio-security policies. Shift work may include weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Experience with farm animal care.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks and stand for long periods.
  • Comfort handling live poultry and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic safety and sanitation procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Gather eggs and prevent breakage.
  • Grade eggs by category, size and condition.
  • Move eggs between barn, cooler and washing areas; record counts.
  • Monitor and record flock health and mortality; troubleshoot feed/ water systems.
  • Clean and rebuild pens; ensure birds access to feed and water.
  • Assist with moving or weighing birds; collect birds as required.
  • Work in hatchery with day-old chicks; assist with eggs set, collection, transfer and disinfection.
  • Potentially work in poultry processing area with cutting instruments as trained.
  • Handle cleaning chemicals; follow safety and biosecurity policies.
  • Perform duties in extreme temperatures and dusty/damp environments.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment in all work areas.

Job Description Summary:This role plays a critical part in overall success of the farm operations within the Aviagen suite of Poultry farms. The Farm Associate I, has primary responsibility for the animal care and welfare of the birds within the facility.Job Description:May work up to 6 days a week, including weekends and holidaysGather eggs in a manner that prevents excessive breakageGrade eggs according to category, size and condition. Transfer egg flats with eggs from the barn to the egg cooler room and record the number of eggs collected and assist in washing eggs and maintain sanitary conditions in the egg wash room/cooler roomMaintain and record eggs and or gather proper data as instructedMaintain poultry house living conditions by monitoring and troubleshooting issues with feed lines, drinkers, fans and barn appearance etc.Monitor and document the health of the flock and or mortalityClean out houses and rebuild bird pens as neededTransfer up to 50 lbs of feed and maintain feed in all feeders according to trial requirements and ensure all birds can access the feedWill be required to collect birds for moving or weighingWork with day old baby chicks within the Hatchery Facility. Additional duties may include set eggs, collect eggs, transfer eggs and disinfecting of the facilityAbility to work in a poultry processing plant - Live hang poultry, use cutting instruments to de-bone and or cut poultry as trained for proper data collectionAbility to work with chemicals such as detergents, disinfectants, etc.Must perform essential duties in a safe and efficient manner as trainedMust be able to perform manual tasks in extreme hot or cold temperaturesMust follow Animal Care Standards, Animal Welfare Guidelines and Bio-Security policies and proceduresMust be able to work in dry, dusty, damp and or wet environmentMust be able to work with live animals and the associated environmentMust be able to, on a routine basis, handle and interact with live poultryMust be able to be around farm related smells or foul odors and loud/noisy environmentMust be able to work in an environment with substantial dust circulationJob qualifications and physical requirements:Ability to understand oral and written instructions and perform simple tasks.
