This position involves ensuring the safe crossing of school children at designated crosswalks within school zones. Guards work at elementary, junior high, and some high schools, performing split shifts ranging from 1 to 6.5 hours, with shifts scheduled 30 minutes before and after school start and end times.

Duties

• Participate in job-specific training, including the Florida School Crossing Guard Training Program (FDOT), and attend annual mandatory training and requalification every 14 months.
• Monitor school crossing areas to ensure safe crossing for students.
• Provide safety crossing instructions and procedures to children.
• Use safety equipment such as retro reflective vests, stop paddles, and traffic whistles to facilitate safe crossings.
• Monitor student behavior and report traffic violations threatening safety.
• Arrive punctually for scheduled posts and carry all required safety gear.
• Process documents in accordance with supervisor and agency policies.
• Engage in cross-training and assist colleagues as needed.
• Report hazards, safety issues, or equipment problems to supervisors or appropriate personnel.
• Adhere to attendance policies, notify supervisors of absences at least one hour prior, and submit timesheets and leave requests timely.
• Respond promptly to communications via mailbox, phone, PowerDMS, and email.
• Maintain professionalism, courtesy, and ethical conduct in interactions with the public and colleagues.
• Build positive relationships within the agency and respect cultural, religious, and gender differences.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Pass a comprehensive background check, including polygraph and drug test
• Fluent in English (reading, speaking, understanding)
