Job Description

Hours:Approximately 1 hour a day, 8:20 a.m.- 8:50 a.m. and 3:15 - 3:45 p.m., student days.

Summary:Guide or control safely, vehicular or pedestrian traffic at such places as streets, schools and parking lots.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct vehicle traffic to keep drop off traffic moving.
  • Monitor traffic flow to locate safe gaps through which pedestrians can safely cross streets/parking lots.
  • Monitor access or flow of people to prevent unsafe situations.
  • Direct or escort pedestrians across streets, stopping traffic.
  • Warn individualsabout rule violations or safety concerns.
  • Communicate traffic and crossing rules and other information to students and adults.
  • Enforce safety rules and appropriate behavior standards
  • Report unsafe and inappropriate behavior of students to building principal.
  • Learn the location and purpose of street traffic signs within assigned patrol areas.
  • Record and report infractions to appropriate authorities.
  • Be alert at all times to students and their needs.
  • Inform administration immediately of any serious problems.
  • Maintain a safe environment.
  • Maintains a positive demeanor at all times and uses appropriate language.
  • Maintains confidentiality about students according to FERPA and district policies.
  • Ability to resolve problems between students.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to work well alone and in a team.
  • Speak, hear, see and write clearly with or without assistive device(s).
  • Walk, stand for the full scheduled period, with minimal sitting options.
  • Adhere to all Board and District policies
  • Regular, predictable and physical attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Maintains consistent, predictable and physical attendance to meet the requirements of the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be physically present, regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear.
  • The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust, focus.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students when they are waiting to cross the street/parking lot safely.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtractand multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Ability to solve problems in a professional manner.
