DEFINITION

Maintain control of children and vehicular traffic at crossing sites to ensure that children cross safely at designated sites.

Scope of Duties

• Direct actions of children at street intersections to ensure safe crossing.
• Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and report infractions to the police.
• Observe vehicles and pedestrians near school crosswalks to report suspicious activity.
• Notify authorities of uncooperative or abusive children.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance, aiming for no more than 2 excused absences per year.
• Follow all safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Report unsafe conditions immediately to the field supervisor, or by the end of the shift if possible.
• Provide exceptional customer service to promote a positive image and foster a professional environment in the workplace and community.

Supervision

Reports to Andy Frain Services' Field Supervisor. Exercises no supervision of others.

Scope of Qualifications and Requirements

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of community geography and important local landmarks.
• Ability to observe and report situations clearly and objectively.
• React calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
• Good general intelligence and emotional stability.
• Ability to tactfully interact with the public, especially children.
• Minimum age of 18 years.
• Physically capable of performing crossing duties in all weather conditions.
• Ability to read and interpret English documents, and to write reports and correspondence effectively.
• Must attend a mandatory School Crossing Guard class.

Tools and Equipment Needed

• Stop Paddle, Reflective Vest, Whistle, optional: cell phone, rain gear, reflective gloves, reflective cap, first aid kit, proper winter gear, traffic cones.
