The City of Palmetto Florida seeks a dedicated School Crossing Guard to assist young students in crossing streets safely. This position requires working outdoors and ensuring the safety of others while following proper safety protocols. Ideal candidates will be certified and have strong communication skills to effectively direct traffic and manage interactions with the public.

General Description:
The purpose of this job within the organization is to assist school children with crossing streets safely and prepares crossing zones.
This job works under close supervision according to set procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this job/class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job/class as necessary.
Essential Functions:
Assists and instructs school children with crossing streets safely in accordance with appropriate safety standards.
Prepares crossing zones utilizing hand-held stop signs, whistles, and traffic cones.
Takes necessary precautions to avoid injury in a variety of weather conditions and emergency situations.
Works consistently with coworkers and the general public in a courteous and professional manner.
Maintains and utilizes city tools related to area of assignment.
Additional Duties:
Participates in directing traffic for special events as requested by the school or supervisor.
Performs related work as assigned.

Must verbally and through hand signals communicate safety instructions clearly.

Responsible for the actions of others, requiring almost constant decisions affecting the general public; works in a moderately fluid environment with guidelines and rules; there may be frequent variations from the routine.
Complexity of Work:
Performs semi-skilled work involving set procedures and rules, but with frequent problems; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure.
Impact of Errors:
The impact of errors is serious – affects the general public.
Physical Demands:
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Equipment Usage:
Handles or uses equipment or work aids involving moderate latitude for judgment.
Unavoidable Hazards:
Involves routine and frequent exposure to extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, and traffic.
Work is outdoors. It involves routine exposure to the elements.
Safety of Others:
Requires considerable responsibility for the safety and health of others and/or continuous enforcement of the laws and standards of public health and safety.
