Position: Crossing Guard

Location: Glencoe, IL

Job Overview

Maintain control of children and vehicular traffic at crossing sites to ensure safe crossing at designated locations.

Scope of Duties

1. Direct children at street intersections to ensure safe crossing.
2. Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and report infractions to the police.
3. Observe vehicles and pedestrians near school crosswalks for suspicious activity.
4. Notify authorities of uncooperative or abusive children.
5. Maintain regular and predictable attendance, with a goal of only 2 excused absences per year.
6. Follow all safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
7. Report unsafe conditions immediately to the field supervisor.
8. Provide exceptional customer service to promote a positive community image and foster professionalism.

Supervision

Reports to the Field Supervisor at Andy Frain Services. Exercises no supervision.

Qualifications and Requirements

1. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
2. Knowledge of local geography and important community buildings.
3. Strong observational skills and ability to report clearly.
4. Ability to react calmly in emergencies.
5. Good intelligence and emotional stability.
6. Tactful interaction skills, especially with children.
7. Minimum age of 18 years.
8. Physical ability to perform duties in all weather conditions.
9. Ability to read and interpret English documents and communicate effectively in English.
10. Must attend a mandatory School Crossing Guard training class.

Tools and Equipment

Stop paddle, reflective vest, whistle, and optional equipment such as cell phone, rain gear, gloves, reflective cap, first aid kit, winter gear, and traffic cones.
