Job description

Position: Crossing Guard

Maintain control of children and vehicular traffic at crossing sites to ensure safe crossing at designated locations.

Scope of Duties:

• Direct actions of children at street intersections to ensure safe crossing.
• Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and report infractions to the police.
• Observe vehicles and pedestrians near school crosswalks to report suspicious activity.
• Notify authorities of uncooperative or abusive children.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance, with a goal of 2 excused absences per year.
• Follow all safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Report unsafe conditions immediately to the field supervisor.
• Provide excellent customer service to promote a positive image and community pride.

Supervision: Reports to Andy Frain Services' Field Supervisor. Exercises no supervision.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of community geography and key buildings.
• Analytical observation and clear reporting skills.
• Calm and quick reaction to emergencies.
• Good intelligence and emotional stability.
• Tactful interaction with the public, especially children.
• Minimum age: 18 years.
• Physical ability to perform duties in any weather.
• Ability to read, interpret, and communicate safety instructions in English.
• Attendance at a mandatory School Crossing Guard class.

Tools and Equipment: Stop paddle, reflective vest, whistle, and optional items like cell phone, rain gear, gloves, reflective cap, first aid kit, warm winter gear, and traffic cones.
