This role involves monitoring crossing areas, instructing children on safe crossing procedures, and reporting any hazards. Ideal candidates will possess a high school diploma, good communication skills, and the ability to work split shifts. Crossing Guard
Responsible for ensuring the safe crossing of school age children at assigned school crosswalks within school speed zones. Guards are assigned posts at elementary schools, junior high schools and some high schools. Each shift is 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after the student arrive and departure times. Guards utilize safety equipment including a retro reflective vest, stop paddle, and traffic whistle to provide gaps in traffic to allow for the safe crossing of children. Guards work in inclement weather and provide safety crossing instruction to school children. Guards report hazards to safety to the Guard supervisor and/or 911 operator. Guards perform their work in split shifts and work shifts range from 1 hour to 6.5 hours per day depending on schools assigned. Guards must be certified and attend annual training every 14 months to retain their certification.
