Cross-Cultural Competence (C3) Bristol Bay Program Manager
Cross-Cultural Competence Program
The Cross-Cultural Competence (C3) Program supports educators in building resilient cultural identities while reflecting on the lens through which they view their students and communities, their relationships, and their teaching practices. C3 guides participants through a cultural induction program that includes a cultural immersion experience, supportive cohort gatherings during the school year, a graduate-level university course, and community mentorship. Educators who come through C3 gain the tools, support, and confidence to sustainably build welcoming school spaces that reflect and honor the cultures of their communities.
The C3 Bristol Bay Program Manager will manage the Alaska Humanities Forum (AKHF)’s portion of the C3 project in Bristol Bay, alongside Bristol Bay Foundation, University of Alaska Anchorage, and Bristol Bay’s 4 school districts, with specific emphasis on cultivating and supporting cohorts of educators and community partners. The right candidate will have a passion for, and proven experience in, cross-cultural work, program management, collaborative partnerships, and rural community engagement in Alaska. This position will report to the Director of C3 Programs.
A successful candidate for this position will have the following mindset and approaches to the job:
Relationship building: This job requires the manager to engage and support people from different backgrounds, perspectives, and approaches, both in-person and remotely. They aspire to make connections with people, build trust and understanding, and approach the smallest and largest of tasks with a team-oriented mindset.
Playing the long game: Meaningful work takes time, and the arc of relationships is long. Conflict and/or resistance are expected as a normal part of deepening relationships, and showing up consistently for our partners, educators, and communities is critical to building trust.
Keeping a group connected: The manager is the primary architect of building a cohort - supporting adult educators in building close and supportive relationships with each other. They approach this with intention and thoughtfulness.
Curious about and comfortable talking about culture: The thought of guiding others through exploring and articulating their own cultures feels interesting and exciting to the manager. They are curious about their own culture and practice self-reflection to bring this part of themself into their work.
Adaptability and attention to detail: the manager is always ready to pivot towards new opportunities and address obstacles, and is okay when things shift. They look for the root of both simple and complex problems, so they can seek solutions. They maintain their cool while booking (and rebooking) rural travel and communicating weather-related programming shifts.

The position is based at the Forum offices in Anchorage with a regular weekday work schedule of 40 hours per week. This position will involve some weekends & evenings, and include rural travel.
