Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct practices.

  • Ensure player safety.
  • Communicate with families.
  • Coordinate transportation and game logistics.
  • Maintain equipment.

Position Summary

The Scituate School Department is seeking a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and student-centered Cross Country Coach to lead and support the district's interscholastic athletic program. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of Cross Country, its rules and strategies, a commitment to student-athlete development, and the ability to foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive athletic experience. Previous coaching experience is preferred. The coach will fulfill all responsibilities associated with the position in accordance with the Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL) schedule, district policies, and applicable athletic regulations.

Terms of Employment

All coaching positions with the Scituate School Department are one-year, at-will appointments. Note that: The proposed reappointment of a coach must be reviewed by the Athletic Director and Building Principal based on the evaluation tool. The recommendation for reappointment will be forwarded to the Superintendent each year for approval. Coaches may be required to reapply annually. All coaches shall be selected for a one-year at-will position. The SSD may renew the coaches’ employment on an annual basis, contingent on a successful evaluation.

Job Requirements
  • Knowledge of cross country and its rules.
    Previous coaching experience desired.
    Must be certified or certifiable by the Rhode Island Department of Education and/or Rhode Island Interscholastic League.
    Required Before the Start of the Coaching Assignment
    Successful candidates must obtain and maintain all certifications required by the Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL) and Rhode Island law prior to the start of the coaching assignment, including:
    Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL) coaching certification
    Current CPR/AED certification
    Current First Aid certification
    NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
    NFHS Concussion in Sports (annual)
    Any additional NFHS or RIIL-required coursework
    Current Rhode Island BCI, in accordance with district policy
    Candidates who do not currently hold all required coaching certifications are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates must obtain all required RIIL certifications, clearances, and training prior to the start of the coaching assignment.
