Job summary

ServingSchools is seeking an Assistant Cross Country Coach to support daily practices, drills, and race logistics for student-athletes. You will work with the head coach to deliver safe, effective coaching and reinforce teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the program.

The role involves supervising athletes during practices and meets, assisting with travel, and communicating with parents. A high school diploma is required and DOE CHRC certification is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Prior coaching, playing, or youth mentoring experience preferred.
  • Must hold valid DOE fingerprinting certification (CHRC).

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the Cross Country Coach to execute planned practice sessions, drills, and skill stations.
  • Provide targeted coaching and feedback to individual athletes and small groups to foster skill progression and confidence.
  • Model and enforce positive sportsmanship, fair play, and healthy athletic habits.
  • Assume leadership of practices or games in the temporary absence of the Coach.
  • Assist in maintaining continuous supervision of student-athletes during practices, home and away meets, and travel.
  • Help monitor team spaces to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
  • Support the Cross Country Coach in identifying and responding to student injuries or emergencies in accordance with district health protocols.
  • Assist with the setup, teardown, and proper maintenance of team equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain professional and positive interactions with student-athletes, parents, officials, and opposing staff.
  • Assist the Cross Country Coach with keeping the team organized and parents informed.

General Position Description

To assist the Cross Country Coach in providing instruction, supervision, and leadership for student-athletes in a safe, positive, and supportive environment. The Assistant Coach supports daily practice execution, small-group skill work, meet-day logistics, and the reinforcement of positive sportsmanship and teamwork across the program.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • Ability to active-demonstrate sport fundamentals, walk/stand for long periods, and lead active drills.
  • Work environment includes indoor gymnasiums and outdoor athletic fields subject to seasonal weather conditions.
  • Standard schedule includes after-school practices and game times, with travel for away contests.
Terms Of Employment

Seasonal; year-to-year basis. Stipend rate to be determined by the Athletic Director considering experience level and pay rate chart.
