Fairfax County Land Development Services (LDS) - Cross Connections and Backflow Prevention Specialist

Fairfax County offers a vibrant community with excellent schools, safe neighborhoods, extensive parks, and active town centers. The county government, serving nearly 1.2 million residents, is seeking enthusiastic, skilled individuals to join LDS, which oversees land development and building codes, ensuring safety and environmental protection through permits, inspections, and reviews.

We are hiring a specialist to investigate and evaluate cross connections and backflow prevention devices, ensuring compliance with Virginia Department of Health standards, the Virginia USBC, and local codes. Responsibilities include conducting site visits, testing devices, responding to related complaints, and communicating regulations to various stakeholders. The role requires maintaining certifications, operating a vehicle, and adhering to safety protocols.

Key duties involve implementing policies, assisting in code enforcement, conducting inspections, investigating violations, mediating disputes, preparing notices and reports, and supporting court proceedings. The position demands knowledge of relevant laws, codes, and inspection methods, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a related field, a valid driver’s license, and within 9 months, VDHCD Commercial Plumbing Inspector certification. Preferred candidates will have 3-5 years of related experience, customer service skills, and relevant certifications (e.g., ICC, VDHCD). Physical ability to perform inspections in various conditions is required, along with successful completion of a pre-employment medical exam.
