The Navigator provides program support to help students successfully navigate the UIC campus community and connect with university and community resources that support their academic, personal, and financial well-being. The position has a particular focus on supporting undocumented and mixed-status students and families by helping identify needs, providing information about available resources, coordinating referrals, and assisting students in navigating established university and community processes.

Working under the direction of program leadership, the Navigator serves as a resource and referral point for students and supports outreach, programming, and cross-campus coordination designed to promote student access, engagement, and persistence.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Student Navigation and Resource Support

• Meet with students to identify needs and provide information regarding relevant university and community resources.
• Assist students in navigating established campus processes and accessing appropriate programs and services.
• Provide follow-up support regarding referrals and available resources.
• Refer complex academic, financial, legal, personal, or other specialized matters to the appropriate university office or community service provider.
• Maintain appropriate records of student contacts, referrals, and follow-up activities.

Resource Guidance and Referral Coordination

• Serve as a resource and referral point for campus and community services, including academic support, basic needs, financial resources, and other student support programs.
• Maintain current knowledge of available university and community resources serving undocumented and mixed-status students and families.
• Develop and maintain working relationships with campus offices, community organizations, and service agencies to facilitate effective referrals.
• Assist program leadership in identifying gaps or opportunities to improve student resource information and referral processes.

Student Outreach and Engagement

• Conduct outreach to increase awareness of available programs, services, and resources.
• Assist with the development and delivery of presentations, workshops, information sessions, and other student engagement activities.
• Develop and maintain informational and outreach materials.
• Participate in campus and community events related to the populations served by the program.

Program and Cross-Campus Coordination

• Coordinate logistics and activities for assigned programs, workshops, and outreach initiatives.
• Participate in relevant trainings and professional development to maintain current knowledge of resources, practices, and developments affecting the populations served.
• Share relevant resource and program information with students and campus partners.

Reporting and Program Support

• Compile and maintain program participation, referral, and student engagement data.
• Assist with analyzing and summarizing program information for grant and internal reporting purposes.
• Track established program metrics and assist with evaluating program activities and outcomes.
• Provide additional professional and administrative support to program leadership as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

1. Bachelor's degree.
2. Experience working with undocumented and mixed status students, families, or communities.
3. Bilingual language skills with the ability to read, write, speak and translate Spanish / English.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in student services, community outreach, higher education, social services, or a related environment.
• Knowledge of campus, community, and basic-needs resources.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Experience conducting outreach or presentations to students or community members.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
