Kelly is seeking an Agronomic Systems Modeling Specialist to lead development, calibration, and validation of process-based crop models for decision support. The role collaborates with agronomists, data engineers, and product managers, requiring strong communication and domain expertise in corn and soybean systems.

The candidate may work remotely or sit in Cary, NC, or Johnston, IA, with some travel to Des Moines. PhD preferred, but internships or farm experience are a plus and W2 contract only.

Qualifications

• Experience developing, calibrating, validating, and applying APSIM, DSSAT, or comparable process-based crop models for agricultural decision support.
• Strong understanding of crop physiology, phenology, soil water dynamics, nutrient cycling, and crop responses to management and environment.
• Expertise in corn and soybean production preferred with at least one major US row crop.
• Advanced proficiency in R and/or Python for data analysis and model development.
• Experience with Databricks, SQL, cloud computing environments, and APIs for scalable workflows.
• Demonstrated experience with AI-assisted development and reproducible analytical workflows.
• Ability to communicate model assumptions and uncertainty to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Master’s or Ph.D. in agronomy, crop science, soil science, or related discipline.

Responsabilités

• Develop modeling approaches to predict G x E x M interactions across geographies and management scenarios.
• Design and execute model calibration, validation, and sensitivity analyses to quantify performance and uncertainty.
• Interpret genotype, weather, soil, and management interactions to define modeling problems and validation criteria.
• Work with large agricultural datasets including planter, sprayer, and harvest data.
• Incorporate geospatial data such as soil maps, elevation, and remote sensing into analyses.
• Create repeatable workflows for processing and visualizing model outcomes.
• Develop agronomic constraints and validation frameworks for AI-based recommendations.
• Collaborate with agronomists, data scientists, software developers, and product managers.
