Job summary

Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company invites a qualified undergraduate to join the 2027 Summer Internship Program in Kansas or Texas. This paid internship runs May 17 through August 6, up to 40 hours per week, with the potential to transition to a full-time role.

Interns observe Territory Sales Managers and Agents, learn about MPCI vs Private Product insurance, and gain exposure to claim/adjusting processes and agricultural practices across regions. Capstone presentation is required.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in Agriculture (May 2027 graduates not eligible).
• Strong organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills; able to work independently and in a team.
• Basic knowledge of agriculture, farming practices, or crop production preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop customer relationships by observing interaction between Territory Sales Managers, Agents, customers and peers.
• Understand differences between MPCI and Private Products within crop insurance.
• Observe and assist with Multi-Peril and Private Product claims and adjusting process.
• Learn about how the organization is run and its purpose in the industry.
• Gain knowledge of agricultural practices and crops across regions; learn loss procedures for major crops.
• Familiarize with Precision Technology as it applies to producers; shadow Home Office in West Des Moines, IA for broader business insights.
• Develop project presentation skills for a Capstone presentation at the end of the internship.

Farmers Mutual Hail is currently looking for a qualified undergraduate to intern in Kansas or Texas as part of our 2027 Summer Internship Program. This is a paid internship starting Monday, May 17 through Friday, August 6, working up to 40 hours per week for the summer, with the potential to turn into a full-time, permanent position in the future.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Must be a currently-enrolled sophomore, junior, or senior at a college or university majoring in Agriculture (May 2027 graduates will not be eligible).

Skills: Strong organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills are necessary. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Basic knowledge of agriculture, farming practices, or crop production preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develops customer relationships and interpersonal skills by working and observing interaction between Territory Sales Managers and Agents, customers, and peers.
• Develops a clear understanding of the differences between Multi-Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) and Private Products within the crop insurance industry.
• Observes and assists with Multi-Peril and Private Product claims and adjusting process.
• Gains essential background knowledge on how the organization is run and its purpose in the industry.
• Gains an understanding of agricultural practices and learns about crops in various regions assigned throughout the country.
• Learns how to explain various loss procedures for the major crops insured.
• Become familiar with Precision Technology as it applies to individual agricultural producers.
• Job shadows at the Home Office in West Des Moines, IA to gain a broad understanding of the business cycle and to observe and be a part of the culture at FMH.
• Obtains experience with project presentation skills to help intern deliver a successful Capstone presentation to finish out the internship.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must reside in the state of Kansas or Texas for the duration of the internship.
• Must be able to physically climb heights in excess of ten (10) feet; walk distances in excess of one-quarter (1/4) mile over un-even terrain; bend, squat, twist and reach; including lifting objects up to 50 pounds; and stand without rest for periods of time greater than one hour.
• Must have valid driver’s license, car insurance, and a reliable vehicle to travel.
• 75% travel and possible overnight stay may be expected (expenses covered by FMH).
