The CRNA provides anesthesia for pediatric patients undergoing surgical or other procedures requiring anesthesia, working as part of the anesthesia care team with an anesthesiologist. Responsibilities include providing care from preoperative to postoperative, monitoring patient responses, and notifying anesthesiologists of critical events.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and Licensure

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesia.
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
• Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
• Current certification with the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
• Active membership in the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

Experience

• One (1) year of experience as a CRNA.
• Completion of at least 15 pediatric anesthesia cases for patients under 6 years old.
• Maintain 15 Class A credits focused on pediatrics every two years.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include working within scope of practice, minimizing infection risk, participating in pre-anesthetic evaluations, performing techniques such as IV placements, monitoring physiologic responses, managing anesthesia from pre-op to recovery, administering fluids and blood products, documenting all procedures, ensuring equipment safety, communicating effectively with the team, and participating in emergency care and education activities. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to see details at close range.
• Ability to handle high-stress situations and work around biohazards.
• Work in confined spaces, with temperature variations, and in various lighting conditions.
• Stand for long hours, lift up to 40 pounds, and move patients and equipment.
