The Nurse Anesthetist administers anesthesia for surgical, obstetrical, and other medical procedures across all age groups—including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics—using medically approved techniques under the professional supervision of an anesthesiologist or surgeon. Has full access to patient health information.
Requirements
- Current Certification as a Nurse Anesthetist by the AANA Council on Certification or eligibility for certification.
- Current Registered Nurse Licensure in North Carolina.
- Current Verification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist by the Board of Nursing North Carolina.
- Member of the AANA (optional).
- Current BCLS, ACLS, PALS, and NALS certification.
- Current Credentials / Reappointment as per IHS Bylaws.
- Successful completion of hospital and unit-specific orientation.
- Must possess full range of body motion to pass basic FIT test, including walking, kneeling, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching, and sitting for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds; may occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance or assistive devices.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation (e.g., keyboard).
- Good visual acuity for patient assessment, medication administration, and documentation.
- Good hearing essential for accurate patient assessment.
- All employees with an RN classification in the Nursing department may have a high risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens or other infectious materials and must use PPE.
