Job summary

August Bioservices in Nashville, TN is seeking a Critical Utilities Technician to manage all site utilities including boilers, WFI, RO, Clean Steam, air systems, and building management systems. The role supports both non-GMP and GMP site services across a busy CDMO campus.

You will perform routine inspections, coordinate contractor activities, ensure safety, and maintain accurate records while sustaining up-to-date knowledge of plant technologies and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; associates or bachelor degree preferred.
  • Experience with complex systems or industrial sector is desirable.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure continuous operation of mechanical systems with routine inspections and maintenance.
  • Schedule inspections, cleaning, filter replacements and part replacements.
  • Monitor safety equipment and suspend operations as needed to ensure safety.
  • Perform repairs, obtain parts and manage budget within scope.
  • Maintain documentation of inspections, maintenance and repairs.
  • Stay updated on safety laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate with contractors for service on utility systems.

The Critical Utilities Technician is responsible for managing all utilities for both non‑GMP / GMP Site Services at August Bioservices Nashville, TN manufacturing site. This includes operation of the high-pressure boilers, clean utility systems (WFI, RO, Clean Steam) air compressors, air compressor and air systems, chiller systems, nitrogen systems, wastewater systems, heating ventilation and air conditioning systems, HEPA systems and the operation of the EMS & BMS building management systems. Our site consists of office space, laboratory facilities, central utilities, warehouses, drug product filling, manufacturing, and all support infrastructure and equipment. This function will operate and support maintenance of these critical utility system and notify effected departments if any excursions occur. This role will support contractor management when service contracts are required on the utility services.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure optimal and continuous operation of mechanical systems by performing routine inspections and maintenance, monitoring metering equipment and adjusting levels as necessary.
  • Maintain systems by scheduling regular inspections, cleanings, filter replacement and all other tasks necessary to keep all components performing optimally; identify and repair or replace malfunctioning components.
  • Ensure safety by monitoring safety equipment, identifying potential issues and taking appropriate steps to suspend operations and repair the problem.
  • Perform necessary repairs and replacements, obtain replacement parts and upgrade components as needed while staying within the budget.
  • Study to keep current on knowledge of all applicable safety laws and regulations in order to ensure full compliance at all times.
  • Create and enter properly documented records of inspections, maintenance routines and repairs.
  • Sustain up‑to‑date knowledge of developments in relevant technology and make recommendations for overhauls and upgrades.
  • Execute preventative maintenance on critical utility systems.
  • All other duties assigned by supervisor or manager.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Required. Associates or Bachelor degree preferred
  • Preferred minimum 2+ years of experience with complex systems and/or the industrial sector
  • Boiler operator license for State of Tennessee desired
  • Preferred knowledge of pharmaceutical utility systems including reverse osmosis (purified water), Water for Injection and Clean Steam generation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly safety‑conscious
  • Proficiency in computerized maintenance management system

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
