Job summary

Salute is seeking a dynamic Critical Facilities Technician (Level 1 & 2) for an on-site role in Ellendale, ND. You will monitor and maintain data center IT infrastructure, coordinate with engineers, and manage work orders to ensure uptime and reliability for hyperscale clients.

The position requires knowledge of data center systems and a proactive approach to safety and maintenance, with relocation assistance available to support the right candidate.

Qualifications

  • 0–2 years of related experience in operation, installation and maintenance of data center critical equipment.
  • 5 years of related experience in operation, installation and maintenance of data center critical equipment.
  • High school diploma or GED with two+ years’ experience in electrical systems, refrigeration and/or HVAC.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
  • Complete planned and ad-hoc preventive maintenance work assignments requiring collaboration with engineering, mechanical, and maintenance teams.
  • Inspect building systems (HVAC, electrical distribution) and maintain clean, safe equipment rooms.
  • Respond quickly to indoor emergencies and air quality concerns.
  • Create, close and track work requests; manage work orders and verify completion.
  • Monitor contractor performance and suggest changes as needed.
  • Support data center services and customer/vendor relations.
  • Assist with network/IT infrastructure tasks and equipment testing.

The Critical Facilities Technician provides comprehensive data center white space support for IT infrastructure, which may include monitoring, troubleshooting, reporting, and day-to-day maintenance – all of this being site-dependent and as per the service level agreements with our clients. Critical Facilities Technicians are also responsible for site rounds and using event monitoring and management systems to provide notifications and escalations to stakeholders during service outages.

Responsibilities
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
  • Complete planned and ad‑hoc preventive maintenance work assignments requiring the skill and direction of several engineering, mechanical, and maintenance trades.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of building systems, i.e., HVAC, electrical distribution, maintain mechanical equipment rooms to ensure clean and safe conditions.
  • Rapid response, investigation, and management of indoor emergency situations and air quality complaints.
  • Have a complete working knowledge of creating, closing, and tracking "work requests" (WR). Initiate or respond to work orders, follow up and verify completion of work.
  • Monitor performance and note deficiencies of service contractors and recommend changes as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Support the delivery of data center services including colocation, telecommunications services, and deployment of additional services to customers and internal business systems.
  • Act as an operational contact for data center customers, vendors, and carriers as it relates to colocation, connectivity, and network products and services.
  • Carry out tasks under the direction of the Network/Engineering Infrastructure Manager and IT Manager necessary to support internal networks, IT infrastructure, computers, electronics, and telephone systems.
  • Conduct activities inside IT and telecommunications rooms or cabinets such as the installation of IT and network hardware, making or running patch cables, and verifying or testing cable paths.
  • Coordinate and oversee access to and work within the facility with third‑party contractors, vendors, and carriers related to structured cabling installation, circuit delivery, and equipment installations in IT and telecommunications rooms and customer space.
  • Support off‑site points‑of‑presence at remote locations and aid in operations, administration, and maintenance of infrastructure, network equipment, and tasks related to the delivery and support of network services.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 0–2 years of directly related experience in the operation, installation, and maintenance of data center critical equipment, building systems with in‑depth technical understanding and knowledge of all HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and control systems.
  • A minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in the operation, installation, and maintenance of data center critical equipment, building systems with in‑depth technical understanding and knowledge of all HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and control systems.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two+ years’ experience in electrical systems, refrigeration and/or HVAC. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including Feeders, Transformers, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, Chillers, Air handling units, and CRAC units.
  • Good observation skills and problem‑solving ability.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment‑related tasks.
  • Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly.
  • Ability to move quickly and efficiently within various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
  • Good hand‑eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors.
  • Clear vision, with or without correction, to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses.
  • Ability to differentiate between colour‑coded warning signs, labels, and cables.
  • Ability to work in environments with a wide variety of temperature inside a facility.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, or snow.
  • Capability to work in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license for work‑related travel, as required.
Site Location

We operate a 24‑hour facility where work hours (shifts) are assigned as needed to ensure job functions are performed satisfactorily, compliance is maintained, and the company operates efficiently. Certain positions, as specified in your offer letter, may require working irregular hours, such as nights, weekends, overtime, alternating shifts, and under various conditions, including outdoor work during extreme weather or in hazardous environments.

Compensation & Benefits Disclosure

The base pay range for this role is $43.78–$47.38 per hour. This range reflects a good‑faith estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay upon hire, based on factors such as skills, experience, education, and market/location. Our comprehensive benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, Health Savings Account (HSA), gym discount, mental health, Discounted Group Life & AD&D, Discounted Group Short & Long‑term Disability, 401(k) retirement matching, PTO/paid holidays, and parental leave. Final compensation will be determined by job‑related factors consistent with applicable law.
