JOB SUMMARY: EMCOR Government Services, Inc. is seeking an energetic Critical Facilities Technician (CFT) Lead to serve as a technical resource and leader for DISA Data Centers. The position will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations. The CFT Lead is responsible for the overall operation of all electrical, mechanical, HVAC and life cycle safety equipment within the data center and has supervisory responsibility for all CFT’s on a rotating shift. The CFT Lead will assist in maintaining high reliability and performance while keeping operating costs in facilities at a minimum. This equipment supports mission-critical servers and must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.

This role acts as front-line working supervisor when it comes to hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. They will operate and troubleshoot mission-critical data center facility equipment including electrical support equipment such as stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, 3 phase electrical systems that include but are not limited to switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, and wet cell batteries and associated systems. Mechanical equipment includes CRAC units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers / water chemical system, air handlers and associated systems, pumps, and motors. Additional support equipment is included in the scope of the role which includes fire suppression systems, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment. EMCOR Government Services is seeking a Critical Facilities Technician Lead for a day shift but may be required to support / backfill other shifts as needed for a San Antonio, TX. facility.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee all aspects of the data center’s critical physical infrastructure. Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with the performance work statement and done to high quality and without impact to internal / external customers.
  • Provides support to trades in the Installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and electrical systems in a data center.
  • Ensures data center operates at maximum operational efficiency, including analyzing existing operating conditions, recommending new technologies and improving overall efficiency, and cost reduction.
  • Monitors, maintains, and responds to abnormal conditions in facilities systems. Areas include Mechanical, Electrical, Fire / Life Safety, and Building Monitoring and Control.
  • Monitors electrical / critical power distribution from the Utility / Generator main switchgear through the UPS systems out to the customer load to ensure operational readiness.
  • Ensures Fire / Life Safety systems which include wet sprinkler systems, pre-action sprinkler systems, clean agent suppression systems, and their associated detection devices are operation ready.
  • Develop creative approaches to keep operational costs to a minimum, improve efficiency, and implement new strategies.
  • Reads blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical order to determine methods and sequences of processes.
  • Ensure inspection rounds are complete, and any deficiencies are documented / and or corrected.
  • Works with the Leadership Team to track and complete Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Tasks and Services.
  • Engage in IDIQ improvement projects and driving them from conception to completion.
  • Coordinates daily with a multitude of third-party vendors ensuring adherence to contracted SLAs and monitor completion of PM’s.
  • Oversee Work order projections and ensure deliverables are met in accordance with performance work statement(s).
  • Routinely operate as the after-hours on-call. This will include responding to any issues within the data centers and managing the investigation, mitigation, and recovery of the issue(s).
  • Report and coordinate with Facility Project Manager and/or Deputy Project Manager
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Regular, predictable attendance is essential to satisfactory performance.
  • Must be willing to be part of the after-hours notification and escalation protocol.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, and hearing protection where the company requires.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Possess an understanding of the electrical, mechanical, and fire / life safety systems used in a data center.
  • Environment familiarity including, but not limited to the following: electrical distribution and layout, transformers, PLC’s, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, STS’s, ATS’s PDU’s, Chilled Water Systems, CRAC/CRAH’s, Pre-Action Sprinkler Systems, Clean Agent Fire Suppression Systems.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E, and compliance issues as well as building codes regarding fire / life safety.
  • Current knowledge in industrial safety best practices (i.e. lock out / tag out, arc flash protection, OSHA and state regulations).
  • Familiarity with data trending / tracking and analysis and the ability to utilize a PC based integrated critical monitoring system.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems including:
  • Chilled Water Systems
  • Large Centrifugal Chillers
  • Cooling Towers
  • Water Treatment Systems
  • VFD’s and Pumps
  • HVAC equipment
  • CRAC/CRAH’s
  • Humidification Systems
  • Water/Air filters
  • BAS and PLC Controls
  • Fuel/Oil storage and delivery systems
  • 12,470, 480/277 and 208/120 electrical generation and distribution
  • Static UPS Systems
  • Double Interlock Pre-Action Systems
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Work Order system.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal staff and effectively work in a team environment.
  • Ability to coordinate, supervise, and communicate with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on these systems.
  • Ability to learn quickly and address issues as they arise during normal working hours or after hours.
  • Ability to operate in and promote a rigorous process-driven team environment.
  • Ability to logically analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task multiple projects.
  • Ability to operate Hand and Machine Tools (hammer, drill, saw, etc.).
  • Ability to operate electrical tools such as a multi-meter or infrared camera.
  • Must be comfortable working in a high stress, fast paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Must be able to work on a shift which may require nights, holidays, and some weekends.
  • Possess critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills.
  • Must work on-site; no telecommuting permitted.
  • Must possess a current, valid state-issued driver’s license
  • Must be a US Citizen, and currently have, or be able to obtain, a Secret Security Clearance.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Associate degree or equivalent education and/or work experience and a minimum of 2 years in a similar position within critical facilities (preferably a data center, hospital, semi-conductor, or power plant) required.
  • OSHA 10 and NFPA70E Certified during employment required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Primarily walking, standing, and bending with some sitting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with verbal, visual and listening skills
  • Close visual work on a computer terminal.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required equipment as well as to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.
  • Able to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work on raised platforms.

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Data Center environment with varying temperatures and loud noises.
