What this job involves

The Data Center Operating Engineer is responsible for delivering best practice systems and resolving problems on all data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure (UPS, MV electrical systems, generators, cooling systems, etc.).

What is your day to day?
  • Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance to ensure continuous operation of all building systems, including fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, chillers, CRAC, CRAH, plumbing, controls), electrical (lighting, UPS, ATS, STS, PDU, generators, primary switchgear, transformers), and hot water systems.
  • Monitor operation, adjust, and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, air conditioning equipment, boilers, ventilating and water heaters, pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other mechanical and electrical equipment. Record readings and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Analyze system operation, identify malfunctions, and take corrective actions. Comply with safety policies regarding hazardous materials. Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
  • Learn and understand the data center site to manage incidents and events that threaten critical systems.
  • Manage work orders, including CMMS, vendor management, and customer-facing tickets.
  • Understand and follow emergency escalation procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Physical Work Abilities and Requirements

This position requires frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting (minimum 50 lbs.), stooping, working overhead, and working at heights, including:

  • Walking large campus-like settings.
  • Climbing stairs, rooftops, ladders up to 30 ft., and working from heights.
  • Ability to climb ladders with a 300-lb weight limit.
  • Flexibility to work different schedules, including holidays and responding to emergencies.
Desired Experience and Technical Skills

Required:

  • At least 2 years experience in a data center or critical facility.
  • Experience with building systems such as UPS, emergency generators, switchgears.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Google Suite, and CMMS.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Corrigo.
  • Universal EPA 608 certification.
  • Training in NFPA70E.
