Skybox Critical Operations is seeking a Lead SCADA & Controls Engineer to own the complete controls platform across mission-critical data center facilities. You will oversee field devices, PLCs, Ignition, databases, networking, and operator interfaces, driving reliability and performance.

The role emphasizes troubleshooting, gateway configuration, and operations training, with a focus on cybersecurity and disaster recovery in a dynamic, high-growth environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience in mission-critical facilities or data centers.
  • Experience with BMS/EPMS systems (Delta Controls).
  • Experience with power monitoring systems.
  • Experience with Schneider, Eaton, Vertiv, ABB, or Siemens equipment.
  • VMware or Hyper-V administration.
  • Microsoft Windows Server administration.
  • Cybersecurity experience for OT.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and maintain Ignition Gateways.
  • Develop and support Vision and Perspective applications.

As we continue to expand our operations, we're searching for a skilled Critical Facilities Engineer- Control SME to join our team.

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly experienced Lead SCADA & Controls Engineer to own the design, deployment, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our industrial controls platform across mission-critical data center facilities.

This position is responsible for the complete controls technology stack—from field devices and PLC hardware to the Ignition SCADA platform, databases, networking, and operator interfaces. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable troubleshooting a communications issue on a managed switch, modifying PLC logic, configuring an Ignition Gateway, or training operations personnel.

This is not a traditional PLC programming position. We are looking for a systems engineer who understands how all components of a modern industrial controls system work together.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Configure and maintain Ignition Gateways
  • Develop and support Vision and Perspective applications
  • Configure OPC-UA device connections
  • Manage Tag Providers and Tag History
  • Configure Alarm Pipelines and notification systems
  • Create reports and dashboards
  • Develop Gateway scripting using Python/Jython
  • Manage user authentication, roles, and security
  • Configure redundancy and disaster recovery
  • Perform Gateway backups, restores, and system upgrades
  • Monitor system health and optimize performance
PLC & Industrial Controls
  • Develop and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix PLCs
  • Create and maintain structured PLC code using UDTs and AOIs
  • Configure Ethernet/IP communications
  • Integrate Modbus TCP and BACnet devices
  • Perform online troubleshooting and commissioning
  • Review and validate Sequence of Operations
  • Support commissioning and functional testing
Controls Infrastructure &
  • Design and maintain industrial network architecture
  • Configure managed Ethernet switches
  • Troubleshoot VLAN, RSTP, multicast, and network communication issues
  • Support OPC-UA communications
  • Coordinate server deployments and virtualization
  • Maintain system documentation and network diagrams
Database & Historian Systems
  • Develop SQL queries
  • Create Named Queries
  • Support SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases Troubleshoot historian performance Optimize reporting and data collection
  • System Architecture
  • Design scalable controls architectures
  • Develop control standards
  • Review vendor submittals
  • Participate in equipment selection
  • Review control panel designs
  • Develop commissioning strategies
  • Support disaster recovery planning
  • Ensure cybersecurity best practices are followed
Operations Support
  • Provide Tier III controls support
  • Troubleshoot critical facility control issues Develop operating procedures Train operations personnel Support after-hours troubleshooting during major events when required
