Job summary

Salute is seeking a Critical Facilities Engineer II to join the on-site Data Center Operations team in Kansas City, MO. You will support one or more data center facilities with hands-on experience in generators, UPS, HVAC, fire/life safety, BMS, and CMMS platforms.

The role requires expertise in electrical or mechanical systems, contributes to change management, incident response, inspections, and adherence to safety and compliance standards.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience in mission-critical facility operations or equivalent technical roles involving UPS, HVAC, generators, and fire/life safety systems.
• Proficiency in electrical or mechanical systems, with competency in complementary discipline.
• Understanding of infrastructure redundancy models (N+1, 2N, ATS/STS) and risk mitigation.
• Familiarity with energy efficiency principles in data center environments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate mission-critical systems (UPS, HVAC, generators, fire/life safety, BMS, CMMS) per Salute protocols.
• Interpret site one-lines, equipment nomenclature, and layout drawings for diagnostics and maintenance.
• Develop and refine SOPs, EOPs, and SOOs to ensure operational readiness.
• Monitor BMS alarms, extract trend data, and escalate per incident framework.
• Create and close change management work orders and incident reports in CMMS.
• Perform routine inspections and rounds to ensure compliance with standards.
• Lead or support low-risk maintenance and develop MOPs.
• Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues and escalate as needed.
• Supervise construction and vendor installations per site safety protocols.
• Support audits (SSAE16, SOC2, ISO 27001) and customer-specific requirements.

Position Summary

The Critical Facilities Engineer II is a vital contributor to the on-site Data Center Operations team, supporting one or more data center facilities under the direction of the Critical Facilities Engineering Manager. This role requires hands-on experience with mission-critical infrastructure, including generators, UPS systems, HVAC, fire/life safety systems, BMS, and CMMS platforms. The Engineer II is expected to demonstrate subject matter expertise in either electrical or mechanical systems, while maintaining working proficiency in the complementary discipline. Responsibilities include executing and enhancing daily operational procedures, supporting change management and incident response, and performing maintenance and inspections to ensure Salute’s data center environments operate at peak availability, safety, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate all mission-critical systems, including UPS, HVAC, generators, fire/life safety, BMS, and CMMS platforms, in accordance with Salute’s engineering protocols.
• Interpret and apply site-specific system one-lines, equipment nomenclature, and layout drawings to support accurate diagnostics and maintenance.
• Execute and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), and Sequence of Operations (SOOs) to ensure operational readiness.
• Monitor and respond to BMS alarms, extract trend data, and escalate issues per Salute’s incident management framework.
• Create, edit, and close change management work orders and incident reports using the CMMS platform.
• Conduct routine inspections and rounds to identify anomalies and ensure compliance with Salute’s Maintenance and Operations Standards.
• Lead or support low-risk maintenance activities, including the development and execution of Method of Procedures (MOPs).
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues independently, escalating as needed.
• Supervise construction activities and vendor installations to ensure alignment with site protocols and safety standards.
• Support internal and external audits, including SSAE16, SOC2, ISO 27001, and other accreditation initiatives.
• Maintain awareness of customer-specific operational requirements and contribute to a culture of service excellence.
• Complete Salute’s Critical Awareness Training and adhere to Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in mission-critical facility operations or equivalent technical roles involving UPS, HVAC, generators, and fire/life safety systems.
• Proficiency in either electrical or mechanical systems, with demonstrated competence incomplementarydisciplines.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure redundancy models (N+1, 2N, ATS/STS) and associated risk mitigation strategies.
• Familiarity with energy efficiency principles and their application in data center environments.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; working knowledge of Microsoft Project, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, or AutoCAD is preferred.
• Experience with CMMS, DCIM, and power metering systems.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to respond effectively to complex issues and customer needs.
• Physically capable oflifting, upto,40 pounds, working under raised floors, and climbing ladders up to 16 feet.
