Responsibilities

• Maintains and cares for all equipment, including cleaning of IV pumps, glucometer, and ultrasound machine with hospital disinfectant.
• Collects vital signs and communicates abnormalities to the assigned nurse.
• Assists with simple wound care and universal precautions per policy.
• Transports patients to and from various areas as indicated and accompanies patients to exam rooms for procedures.
• Reports changes observed in patient condition or behavior to the assigned nurse.
• Maintains medication refrigerator cleanliness, logs, and reports temperature deviations to supervisor.
• Completes equipment logs and enters work orders for repairs as needed.
• Adheres to University and unit-level policies and safeguards University assets.

The University of Miami Emergency Department has an exciting opportunity for a Critical Care Technician.

The Critical Care Technician conducts drug utilization review studies, and consults with medical practitioners on prescription orders, patient reactions, and errors. Additionally, this employee works closely with patients and healthcare providers to provide information and guidance about the effects of prescription drugs, and to help plan effective drug therapy programs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required

Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required

Certification and Licensing:
Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements (EMT/PMD)

BLS-CPR, ACLS, PALS

• Maintains and cares for all equipment, to include cleaning of intravenous pumps, poles, glucometer, and ultrasound machine with hospital approved disinfectant, before and after use.
• Maintains patient areas with adequate supplies.
• Completes equipment log, reports broken equipment, and enters work orders for repair.
• Ensures that medication refrigerator is clean, maintains refrigerator logs, and reports deviations in temperature range to supervisor.
• Collects vital signs and communicates abnormalities to appropriate senior staff member(s).
• Accompanies patients to the exam room for procedures.
• Prepares clinic rooms for procedures to assure all equipment and supplies are present.
• Assists with simple wound care and practices universal precautions per policy.
• Assists in lifting, positioning, turning, and ambulating patients.
• Collects specimen of stool, urine, and sputum, and transports to laboratory.
• Reports any changes observed in the condition or behavior of patients to the assigned nurse.
• Transports patients to and from various areas as indicated.
• Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
