Job summary

Responsibilities

• Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed
• Evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans with minimal supervision
• Explain purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients and provide education upon discharge
• Operate ventilatory equipment, both invasive and non-invasive, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance
• Perform patient suctioning via oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods
• Conduct routine review of patient chest X-rays to determine need for further evaluation
• Perform 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition
• Perform pulmonary function studies including NIF and VC
• Assist with respiratory care procedures including bronchoscopy and chest tube placement
• Record all pertinent treatment information and patient responses in respiratory care records and patient charts
• Communicate with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficiency
• Report necessary information during walking rounds for shift-to-shift handoff communication
• Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging including data entry, verification, and error correction
