About the Role: Job Summary

The GME Simulation Educator is under the direction of the NGHS Director of the Clinical Skills and Simulation. The GME Simulation Educator will be responsible to support simulation-based learning (SBL) and all other immersive learning modalities for the NGHS GME Surgery simulation needs. This includes providing technical and hands-on support for surgical simulation session preparation and delivery, providing strategic support of simulation-specific education, training, research, and other directives as outlined both internally and externally by NGHS Director of Clinical Skills and Simulation The GME Simulation Educator provides essential communication and networking for the effective functioning of simulation training within the GME Simulation lab and the GME Programs. The GME Simulation Educator will work in concert with the NGHS Lanier Park Simulation Educators to Develop, coordinate and implement GME Surgery simulation training and other needed simulation training and related courses for the simulation needs of NGHS to ensure that goals and objectives specified for the programs are accomplished in accordance with priorities, time limitations, funding limitations or other specifications.

Minimum Job Qualifications
  • Licensure or other certifications: Licensed to practice as an RN or other credentials may be substituted for review

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree

  • Minimum Experience: Minimum of 2+ years direct experience in surgical and/or trauma education or at least 3+ years as a medical surgical simulation educator in a clinical setting and familiarity with best practices in simulation pedagogy.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, implement, assist with, and evaluate surgical simulation learning scenarios, procedures, and practices

  • Assist with faculty development for GME faculty in simulation pedagogy

  • Collaborates with users to develop methods for competency testing

  • Collaborates with NGHS simulation educators, clinical faculty, and other subject matter experts to develop surgical curricula for simulation education and assist with simulation research projects

  • Mentor learners, adjunct faculty, and other simulation center personnel

  • Provides guidance to GME simulation technician maintaining and ordering simulation practice inventory as needed for GME Simulation Lab

  • Attend case training sessions as warranted or deemed necessary and Implementation of appropriate techniques in make-up, moulage and/or simulated resources to establish optimal event realism

  • Become FUSE, FLS and FES proctor and maintain satisfactory proctor status

  • Assist with the tracking of resident progress on simulation throughout programs

  • Complete periodic reports, including budget needs and participate in department team projects and meetings

  • Actively participate in professional development activities

  • Participates in the needs assessment, planning, and evaluation of simulation-based learning activities across GME programs
