Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC seeks a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist to lead critical care pharmacotherapy for the MICU. You will provide direct patient care, monitor drug therapy, and educate staff to improve outcomes in critically ill patients.

The role emphasizes collaboration with physicians, nurses, and the pharmacy team, plus teaching and program development in a historic academic medical center with a trauma designation.

Qualifications

• PharmD from an accredited School of Pharmacy
• PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency or equivalent experience
• DC pharmacist license or eligibility for registration

Responsibilities

• Manage and advance clinical pharmacy services to support high-level patient care for critically ill patients in MICU
• Serve as a clinical specialist resource on critical care pharmacotherapy for pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and the interdisciplinary team
• Provide direct patient care including medication management, pharmacokinetic monitoring, ADE surveillance, and education
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and provide evidence-based recommendations on medication selection, dosing, monitoring, interactions and outcomes
• Develop and implement specialized pharmacotherapy programs, protocols, and pathways in the MICU
• Coordinate and participate in drug utilization initiatives and ensure appropriate medication use across patient age, weight, and organ function
• Mentor staff pharmacists, residents, and students; develop and present educational programs on critical care pharmacotherapy

Education

Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited School of Pharmacy

PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency, or equivalent experience

Registration as a pharmacist in the District of Columbia, or eligibility for registration through reciprocity
